How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

Up until a short while ago I was in love with Brooch Bridal Bouquets and I still am, but then I saw a picture of a Glamelia Bridal Bouquet and I was hooked.

Pin this for later!

They’re truly a work of art. These flowers first came about in the 1940’s and 50’s when brides really wanted Camellia blooms, which are naturally large.

A Glamelia bouquet (also known as a composite bouquet, Malmaison, or rose duchess) is essentially a bouquet made by stripping down a single type of flower (Orchids, Lilies, Gladiolas etc), stripping it down to the pedals and then wiring them back together to recreate a single large bloom.

As you can imagine this is a time-consuming project and they can cost a pretty penny, but as you can tell from the pictures below, they’re gorgeous!

Glamelias have become popular because they lend a vintage, simplistic look while still making a huge statement. Plus, they’re a photographers dream to work with!

You may also consider creating your Glamelia Bridal Bouquet with fabric or silk flowers. These wedding bouquets are affordable and will be a forever keepsake without any additional expense!

How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

From flower crowns to corsages, fresh blooms are one of the best ways to bring your wedding day style to fruition. When it comes to bouquets, not much has changed in terms of shapes and styles to consider, but there’s one trend that is making a comeback in only the chicest of ways: cascading bouquets. Wildly popular in the 1980s thanks to the royals (we’re looking at you, Princess Diana) the traditionally dramatic design has returned, in ways both subtle and straightforward.

What Is a Cascading Bouquet?

A cascading bouquet is an arrangement of flowers that literally cascades from the bride’s hands, creating a natural, trailing effect.

“When done well, [a cascading bouquet] creates a visual line that draws attention to the person holding it,” says wedding planner and floral designer Shean Strong. “While recent brides may see this as a dated design, a cascading bouquet is a way to offer something eye-catching for those who want to add drama to their wedding day look.”

Meet the Expert

Shean Strong is the floral designer and creative director behind Shean Strong Design, an Atlanta-based wedding and event planning company.

With a beautiful color palette, a modern-day cascade moves the design trend-forward, while still keeping it iconic. But where do you begin when attempting to make a decades-old design trend elevated and sophisticated for the modern era? Cascades of weddings past often brings to mind a typical color palette of white and green, and very (very) long cascades. An updated take on the trend could be a more petite cascade that serves to highlight the full bridal look.

Ultimately, your flowers should reflect your style, first and foremost. “I say the rules don’t matter when it comes to what you want for your wedding, so long as everything is done intentionally and purposefully,” encourages Strong. “Your refined, glam, boho, or romantic wedding can have a cascade, so long as your floral designer is giving you what you want while anchoring it to the aesthetics of the day.”

“For a traditionally inspired bouquet, you’re going to see a cascade that includes lilies, roses, stephanotis, and trailing greenery,” says Strong. “To update a cascade to be more of-the-moment for today, but still feel relevant in the future, it’s important to have a cascade predominantly of flowers that will fall effortlessly: think orchids, fritillaria, clematis, hellebore, blooming jasmine, or berries on the vine.”

From romantic to modern, here are 20 cascading bouquet ideas that will definitely turn heads on your trip down the aisle.

Play with Texture

” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

Combining stems and vines with fluffy, full blooms and soft petals creates dimension thanks to layers and layers of texture.

Choose Orchids

” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

Are orchids the ultimate showstopper? We can’t say for sure, but they are undoubtedly one of the best blooms for making a statement. Create the tip of the cascade with an orchid of any shade and you’ll definitely make an impact, especially for a tropical wedding.

Keep the Blooms Big

” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

You might think a cascade means a tapered end, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Choose large blooms for the full cascade and make the ultimate statement.

Work with a Color Gradient

“This gradient cascade bouquet consists of many textural flowers to create a luxe and timeless feel,” says Strong. “I played with ranunculus and checkered fritillaria to give movement at its highest point and chose to put the most saturated shades of the ombre closest to her figure, which intentionally pulls the viewer’s gaze towards the bride.”

Phalaenopsis orchids and jasmine vine give length, while garden roses, lilac, tulips, and double petal hellebore create the body.

A gorgeous floral trend, for wedding flowers with impact.

Cascading Bouquets: A Little Info

The level of impact, just how big and trailing your bouquet will be, will depend on the flowers and colour combinations you choose. For a flowing floral masterpiece opt for a combination of lush, large flowers, such as peonies and roses.Or for a more subtle approach stick to one variety of flower and compliment with soft jasmine and trailing ivy.

Whether dramatic or low key an important factor to note is that your cascading bouquet should not be part of your things to DIY list. Cascading bouquets can be quite intricate and heavy so they must be put together by a professional florist. Trust us, you don’t want to risk your beautiful cascading bouquet falling apart down the aisle!

How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

Cascading bouquets are considered to be the most formal bouquet style. The bouquets were first seen in the 1920s and 1930s, when the cascading portion of the bouquet was often long enough to sweep the floor. These oversized “shower” bouquets have evolved into the modern cascade, which rarely fall below the bride’s knees. Though these formal arrangements are a bit complex in their structure, they can be made at home. However, it is best to begin making the bouquet a few months in advance.

Trim your flowers’ stems to 1 1/2 inches. Push the ends of 10 to 12 of the stems into the foam bouquet holder. Adjust the flowers so that they all face outwards, as this will add fullness to the bouquet.

Cut the wire into lengths of 2 inches and 4 inches. Push the wires measuring 2 inches up the stem of the flowers so that they join the base where the petals meet. Push the 4-inch wires perpendicularly through the bases of the flowers and fold the wire down to meet the 2-inch wire. Twist the wires together to form a stable base.

Cover the stems and wires with floral tape, leaving about an inch of the wire uncovered. Though floral tape is not sticky on its own, it will stick to itself when you stretch it. In this case, it works to keep the wires together.

Lay out all of your flowers into three columns with the wires all pointing away from you. The outer columns should have six flowers in each while the middle column should have 10.

Wire the bottom flowers to the blooms above them. Do this by slipping the twisted wire through the small loop created by the wire pushed perpendicularly through the upper flower’s base. Bend the twisted wire of the lower bloom down and pinch it in place to secure it. Repeat this process with the remaining flowers, working your way up to the top of the columns.

Hook the top wires of each column onto the plastic cage of the floral bouquet holder. Twist the wires around the cage to hold the flower columns in place. Adjust the flowers so that they cover the bouquet holder and face outwards.

Wrap your ribbon around the top of the floral bouquet holder, beginning at the top. Secure it in place to the foam with a pearl-headed corsage pin. Continue wrapping the ribbon around the holder until you reach the end of the handle and secure the edge in place with a dab of hot glue.

Introduction: DIY Bridal Bouquet

How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

Welcome back to our DIY With Flowers series, where we have been showing you how to make your own homemade floral decorations and accessories. This week, we will show you how to make your own bridal bouquet, which is perfect for the big day, whether it is a spring, summer, autumn or winter occasion, and whether it is your own wedding or that of a friend, relative or loved one. With bridal bouquets coming ever more expensive and difficult to make or source, we’ll show you how to make your own in a way which will look spectacular as the lucky lady walks down the aisle!

Step 1: What Do You Need?

This bouquet may look intimidating, but it is actually quite simple and easy to make! You will probably already have almost all of the equipment needed, but you may need to get hold of some white ribbon or floral tape. You can find floral tape in most gardening stores or online, and it’s really cheap and easy to get hold of! The equipment that you will need includes:

  • Shears (scissors will do the job if you don’t have shears)
  • String
  • Floral tape
  • White ribbon (if possible, about 1.5 meters long, remember that it doesn’t have to be white but that’s our suggestion!)

Traditionally, most flowers in a bridal bouquet stick to the colors of white, with some splashes of pink or other pastel colors. As a result, you can see that in our example we have mostly stuck to this pattern, with white and pink being the two main colors in our bouquet. The flowers that we recommend using and have used in our example here are:

  • Avalanche rose
  • Statice
  • Pink Limonium
  • Peony
  • Green trick dianthus
  • Phlox
  • Eucalyptus
  • White lisianthus

However, as always, you should choose colors and flowers to match what you want! If you have a colored theme to your wedding, a bouquet is a great item to match to the theme to ensure that it is coherent throughout your big day!

Step 2: Get Rid of the Leaves

The first step in making any bouquet or flower arrangement is to remove all of the leaves from the stem.

Many of our professional florists at FloraQueen have a special machine which helps them with this, but you may need to do it by hand. Gently remove each leaf delicately, you don’t want to damage the stem.

Do this to all of your flowers before moving onto the next step, it will save time later and mean that you can get rid of all the mess before you get started!

Step 3: Pick Your First Flower

The first step is to choose a focal flower. This means choose a flower that you want to be the center of attention within your bouquet. We have used a light pink peony in our example here.

You should then hold the flower with your fingers near to the blossom end, as shown here in the above image.

Step 4: Add Another Flower

You should add the next flower at an angle facing towards the left like this, but it should remain so that the bloom is at the same height as that of your focal flower.

Here we have used an avalanche rose. This sets you up for the coming steps and ensures that your bouquet will be well filled and rounded.

Step 5: Continue Adding Flowers

From now on, every time you add a flower, rotate the bouquet rightward a quarter turn to position the bouquet ready for the next flower to be added diagonally, angled leftward as before.

In this case we’ve added some lisianthus to bring a hint of colour to your bouquet and your wedding.

Step 6: Add Filler Flowers

Once you’ve go the bulk of your bouquet ready, you can insert some filler flowers between the flowers you already have. These are usually the smaller, green flowers which give a natural look to the bouquet.

One top tip is to ensure that you put all of the filler flowers in at the same angle in order to ensure that your bouquet stays symmetrical and isn’t all over the place!

Step 7: Tie the Flowers Together

You’re hand is probably aching from holding the flowers for all this time right? You can finally let go now, just one more step! Tie a tight knot at the highest point of the stem that you possibly can.

This will keep all of your flowers held together tightly and looking beautiful and symmetrical. Then cut off any excess string so that it can’t be seen as you or the lucky lady walks down the aisle.

Step 8: Cut the Stems

This step is important not just in terms of ensuring that your flowers look great, but also so that it is practical! If you or the bride will be holding the bouquet for a while, you want to make sure there is room to hold it comfortably.

We recommend that you measure two hands lengths from the string, and add an additional 3 centimeters of wiggle room to make sure that it is comfortable to hold the bouquet if the bride will be holding it for a long time.

Step 9: Wrap the Stems Together

This is where the floral tape comes in, as we wrap the stem from the top downwards. This will ensure that the flowers are firmly held in place until and on the big day.

Be careful not to wrap all the way to the bottom, but instead to wrap just over the size of one hand. This way the bouquet will keep its natural look but has plenty of floral tape to do the job of holding everything together firmly.

Step 10: Add Ribbon

Adding the ribbon is one of the more complicated stages so pay attention to this step to ensure that it looks gorgeous.

In a lot of cases, ribbons will be shiny on one side and matte on the other side so we’ll instruct you on how to do this with this kind of ribbon. If your ribbon is the same on both sides, don’t worry, just ignore the references to shiny or matte!

First, place the shiny side of the ribbon facing the stems so that the matte side is visible.

Then put one end over the top of your flowers and wrap the rest around the stems. Leave approximately 40cm spare at the end to tie a knot and add a bow.

Step 11: Tie a Knot to Finish It Off

You should now have about 40cm of ribbon left, which we’ll use to tie a knot to hold it all together, and also to add the cherry to the cake that is our beautiful bouquet with a bow!

Step 12: Take Care, Congratulations and Enjoy!

The final step is to enjoy the wedding! Whether the bouquet is for your wedding or a friend, relative or loved one’s, make sure that they have a great day and enjoy showing off their bouquet to everyone. Make sure they are careful with the delicate flowers, until it comes to the throwing of the bouquet! Congratulations to the bride and groom!

We hope you’ve enjoyed reading and making this stunning bouquet and are now ready for the big day! If you’re a guest, why not make your own floral arrangement as a gift? We hope that the wedding is a great day for everyone to enjoy!

Learn the art to mesmerize people with flowers!

Flowers are one of the prettiest aspects of a wedding that add colors, fragrances, and glamour in a wedding ceremony and when it is about a bridal bouquet the sensation gets double. Cascading wedding bouquet extends the beauty of bridal flowers.

Cascading is a gorgeous floral trend for wedding flowers with a strong impact. This kind of bouquet is especially for those brides who are passionate about their bridal bouquet and want something to create a statement. This style of bridal bouquet can be extended with a waterfall or overflowing style of floral arrangements.

Being a DIY bride is not about saving money, but you may have so many other reasons to create your own bridal bouquet:

  • Brides have their particular way of imagining their bridal bouquet that they cannot explain properly to a florist.
  • For destination weddings sometimes it is not possible to explain your dream bouquet to the florist there and you want to avoid disappointment which could actually spoil your big day.
  • Many times it is about showing your artistic sense, understanding of styles, and displaying their DIY-ABILITIES.

Ok, let’s accept that making a hand-tied bouquet doesn’t seem a difficult task to handle, but DIY your cascade bridal bouquet can surely be a disaster. With the right tools, it is possible to create your own cascade bouquet of fresh, silk, or sola wood blooms.

The best way to improve the looks of your cascade bouquet is the selection of high-quality wood flowers. Careful selection of foliage can maximize the overall looks of your bouquet. Some silk foliage really does look fake. Clearly, the back is plastic and not quite the same color as the front. Don’t use foliage of this nature. Choosing wood flowers is the best option for wedding blooms

  • Material A bouquet holder
  • A holder for the bouquet holder
  • Sola wood flowers and foliage
  • Ribbon
  • Wire cutters or secateurs
  • It’s a fact that plastic stems are straight, but there are rarely straight natural roots. Take warm hands and bend the stems if you want your bouquet to look normal, maybe a little to the left, then a little to the right. Gentle bends will make your bouquet look much more like the real thing with your sola wood floral stems and flowers.
  • Be careful with one-flower, one-colored faux floral bouquets as they’re going to be similar because the flowers are fake, and this is going to be really clear. But this is not the situation with sola wood flower bouquets.
  • Wood flowers are hand-made and require no complicated tools. This handmade appearance provides every single wooden bloom a unique customized look. Sola wood flowers are undoubtedly ‘true touch’ blooms. These look convincingly natural so try to use sola wood flowers instead of silk or any other type of faux blooms to make your bouquet look more convincing.
  • Consider painting your sola wood flowers and take a look at some genuine roses. You will find that within a bloom, within a bush, and even within a petal, the color also varies. You can replicate this by painting sola wood ivory flowers with different proportions of paint. It will provide your wood flowers a glamorous appearance.

The entire process can be made much easier by using a bouquet holder or you can use a vase with a very narrow top or a wine bottle that also fits well. Placing the bouquet in the holder keeps it stable.

Step 1: Foliage arrangement

Start to work the foliage out. In order to create the shape of the bouquet, you can need it. To give you the cascade, you’ll usually need long, trailing foliage or flowers, but just as in the picture at the top of this post, you can use ribbon trails or wire trails, or even bead trails; it’s really up to you.

Step 2: Work in harmony with the bouquet holder

Consider the bouquet holder as a clock’s face. There are numbers 1 to 5 to the right, with 6 at the bottom. 7 to 11 are going up on the left, and 12 are at the top on the right. Decide the total height of your bouquet and cut two pieces of foil of the same length. To define the height, cut one slightly shorter and one longer, which will define the length. Until you insert them, note to make the stems appear more natural if you are dealing with wood flowers.

Step 3: Start adding flowers and filler to the holder

At 3 and 9 o’clock, add both stems of the same size to the holder. Add at 12 o’clock the shorter stem, and at 6 o’clock the longer, trailing stem. To build a sort of frame for the essential flowers, add filler flowers between the foliage you’ve already used and add a bit more foliage.

For your flowers, the colors you select are important. Spend a lot of your time on it. A lot of information about the colors of the flowers are published by most online wholesale floral stores. A whole-white or all-ivory scheme is preferred by many brides. Don’t forget about foliage, if that’s what appeals to you. Leaves are the natural backdrop for flowers; against your white dress, they will help your white flowers be seen.

Be sure to include some flowers that are naturally cascading where blooms occur along a stem’s length. It is perfectly possible to use individual flowers to form a cascade, but it requires wiring and taping. Monochromatic bouquets are very common with brides, where the flowers are all one color but you can choose different colors, shapes, and textures.

If you’re looking for an odd combination of colors, say yellow and black, adding something artificial in black color, such as wire, ribbon, or mega bead, is always more successful than looking for a black flower. This is particularly true where blue accents are required; there are very few blue flowers that are genuine.

Be sure to include some flowers that are naturally cascading where blooms occur along a stem’s length. It is perfectly possible to use individual flowers (freesias are popular) to form a cascade, but it requires wiring and taping. Orchids are especially useful for cascades, choosing from dendrobiums, oncidium orchids, orchids of mokara or aranthera, all of which have several blooms along a single stem.

An alternative is to make the foliage cascade completely and add in some long-stalked flowers. Delphiniums are ideal for white, blue, and violet bouquets.

Tulle is a common accent at many wedding receptions and ceremony sites. Wrapped around twinkling lights, draped across the front of the cake table or adding a soft flow to the banister of a staircase, it’s not surprising tulle has also found its niche in bridal bouquets. The sheer fabric made from silk, nylon, rayon or cotton is starched to hold a form, or left soft as a flowing accent for wedding decor.

Ballerina-Style Nosegay

Use starched tulle as a stiff backing for ballerina-style nosegay bouquets. Cut the tulle large enough to create a shield between the bouquet and the bridal gown, keeping the pollen from fresh flowers off the dress.

Cut a round or rectangular shape, as desired, to coordinate with the shape of the bouquet. Make the piece of tulle large enough to fold accordion style, creating a fluffy backing on the nosegay. Plan to use up to 3 feet of tulle. Attach the fabric to the back side of the bouquet by gluing the fabric to the bouquet stem.

Layer colorful tulle across the open top of the bouquet stem. Cut at least 10 circular pieces of tulle to create the ballerina-style base.

Place a thin line of hot glue around the top of the bouquet stem. Lay the circular pieces of tulle on top of the glue on the bouquet stem, keeping the fabric flat and stretched. Press the fabric gently so glue penetrates all layers. Allow the glue to dry for 15 minutes.

Use a scissors to cut a small hole in the middle of the attached tulle to create a place for the flower stems to be inserted. The tulle will help the flowers stand upright, in the center of the bouquet stem.

Long-Stemmed Bouquet

Use strands of tulle to decorate a long stemmed bouquet, such as an arm sheaf cradled by the bride. Cut a 24-inch long piece of tulle. Make the width about 6 inches.

Twist the long strand of tulle to bunch it up, rope-style. Tie the tulle midway down the long stems with a simple knot or bow, allowing the long tails of the tulle to flow to the end of the long stems.

Embellish the tulle with adhesive glitter spray or glue on tiny craft rhinestones to add sparkle.

Cascading bouquets are having a bit of a moment right now.

And we couldn’t be more chuffed.

From rustic arrangements of willowy wildflowers to glorious sweeping streams of orchids, cascading bouquets are a versatile floral feature that can add colour, texture, drama and (even more) sense of occasion to your wedding day look.

Traditional waterfall bouquets (as they’re also known) might conjure up images of days of yore, formal brides holding voluminous arrangements, (in an even more voluminous dress) but modern cascades are stylish, elegant and flattering.

Be inspired by our pick of twenty stunning cascading bouquets, and swot up with some expert tips on selecting the perfect arrangement for your special day…

How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

A Brief History of the Cascading Bouquet

Cascading bouquets have a long history as the arrangement du jour for formal weddings. Lindsay Bly, a Bridal Consultant with Todich Floral Design, tells us, “Cascading bouquets are a more modern version of what we call the shower bouquet, which came about in 1910 and really reached its peak in the 20s and 30s.

These bouquets sort of disappeared after WWII. The trend was once again popular in the 1980s but it was a smaller version of the shower bouquet and is what we now call the cascading bouquet. This was made famous by Princess Diana.”

Organic Arrangements

Karen Chang Burling of Huckleberry Karen Designs, explains that modern brides should opt for rustic, foliage-heavy bouquet, for a chic look, that’s not over-styled. “Cascading bouquets are coming back – but in a more natural way, by incorporating seasonal foliage. They are definitley realistic, but you want to take into consideration the time of the year, the foliage you have available and mostly if it fits with the style of your wedding. Cascading bouquets tend to look the most organic in an outdoor setting.”

Picking the right bouquet size is all about scale. While the bride’s bouquet is usually grander than those of her bridesmaids (or at least distinct from her bridesmaids’ blooms), fitting your wedding flowers with other elements of your wedding day isn’t so cut and dry. Here are some simple equations for finding the best bridal bouquet size.

Bouquet + Gown

Ball Gown: A gown with such a grand, impressive shape needs a bridal bouquet to match. If your bouquet is too small, it can get lost in a sea of fabric. In many cases, an easy rule of thumb is the bigger the dress, the bigger the bouquet.

Simple Silhouette: Sheaths are all about feeling light and airy, so carry a bouquet that embodies that same spirit. Consider a small nosegay or a posy. If your wedding dress has structured lines, a bouquet that’s too big might hide the dress.

Embellished Gown: Bows, crystals, sashes, and other details can also play a role in how big your bridal bouquet should be. If you’ve got some sparkle at the waistline, carry a tight nosegay rather than a cascading collection of blooms, so that you don’t hide the decoration. If your gown features a lot of embellishment, opt for a simpler bouquet—your bouquet should be considered part of your attire, and your ensemble could look busy if there are too many blooms.

Bouquet + Venue

Ballroom: If you’re having your wedding reception in a large, elaborate space, a small bouquet might seem too insignificant. Avoid bitsy bunches of flowers and try an elegant round bouquet. Or, if you really have a flair for the dramatic, go all out with a grand cascading bouquet.

Loft: If city-chic is more your style, think pretty and petite—a large bouquet might overpower your space. If you have your heart set on a cascade arrangement, ask your florist to keep it simple. Cascade bouquets don’t have to be a mass of multiple types of blooms — they can be an elegant composition of just one flower. We love orchids or lily of the valley for a sophisticated look.

Outdoors: Competing with Mother Nature is a definite no-no. Big or small, you’ll want something that works with your surroundings. An intimate backyard gathering calls for a hand-tied bouquet for that just-picked natural look, while a reception near the beach (with the ocean as your backdrop) justifies something grander.

Knot Note: Big doesn’t always equal bold. Use other elements of your wedding bouquet (color, shape, wrap) to make a lasting impression on your guests.

After 16 years of marriage, I can say with certainty that marriage takes a lot of blending of ideas, plans, and opinions. Sometimes we don’t realize that it actually starts long before you say, “I do.” So when you sit down together to talk about the vision for your wedding day, don’t be surprised if you both have different ideas. But don’t panic! Blending themes within a wedding isn’t as hard as it sounds! These silk wedding flowers are a great example of taking two different ideas and incorporating them into custom arrangements that fit the bride and groom.

Josie wanted a mix of Lilies and Calla Lilies and had some bright and fun colors as well. Her teal, orange and purple theme colors would be used in their centerpieces and she wanted to incorporate them in her ceremony flowers as well. The bridal bouquet was a mix of white Garden Lilies, ivory Calla Lilies, orange and purple Dendrobium Orchids and teal mini Phalaenopsis orchids. Her summer-y bouquet was a combination of all the inspiration photos she sent me. Though this bouquet looks quite tropical, Josie wanted to include a rustic element. Twine is a great way to accent any bouquet that you want to look a little more organic and rustic.

My florist provided me with a breakdown of the cost of all the flowers/arrangements I’m ordering. My bouquet came out to $185.00. which unbelievably is the highest priced item on the list. Is this right? The bouquet consists of ivory colored roses, and a touch of blue delphinium & blue limonium. My bridesmaids have the same, just not as full of a bouquet as mine will be and theirs will be orange roses – the price is only $37.50!

Can someone please give me an idea of what your bridal bouquets are costing you and if you think this price is reflective of what I ordered?

I haven’t actually picked my bouquet yet, but the florist told me that at their shop bridal bouquets average around $125 which is lower, but not a lot. However, the average bridesmaid bouquets she quoted me at $75.

Hope this helps.

Not sure if the area you live in has anything to do with it. But mine is around $135 (I don’t have my contract in front of me) and mine is all white roses. My BM’s are around $55 – $60 and their flowers are grown locally but yet still expensive. Our flower bill is around $1600 for everything. IMO, that’s really expensive but the florist I have is the best and my FMIL offered to pay so I’m not stressing too much. But still, flowers are expensive. Maybe that’s why alot of the brides on WW make their own arrangements. : )

That’s a little high from what I’ve heard other brides have paid in my area, I’ve heard of brides paying $150 for their bouquets in my town (which is a small country town in good ole Georgia lol) but in other areas like bigger cities I would guess that’s average, and then it also depends on what flowers you choose, some flowers are more expensive than others. I’ve heard many ladies on here say that calla lilies and orchids are some of the most highly priced flowers.

@mellojean – I just looked at your photos and your bouquet is beautiful! It’s somewhat similar to how I want mine to look with the exception of blue accent flowers instead of purple. I may re-consider and create my own, you can’t beat the price!

That sounds a little high but not too far off from the norm which from what I priced out when looking for a florist in my area can be anywhere from 90-150 and up.

For my bouquet our florist quoted me 85 dollars for coffee break roses and eggplant calla lilies – but I asked her to do a smaller arrangement for me – I do not want to lug a heavy bouquet down the isle with me – I think the pricing really depends on what type of flowers you use and how many, the bigger the bouquet the higher the price.

For my girls – they are each carrying 3 pink long stem roses with some white waxy type little flowers (I can’t for the life of me remember what they are called, instead of using baby’s breath) and they will be tied with flowing brown ribbon for 15/each

If you think the price is too high I would talk to some other florists in your area for more quotes to get a better idea of the average price.

How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

Last week I showed you Felicia’s beautiful wedding flowers in multiple shades of purple. This week I get to share with you Morgan’s moody purple silk wedding flowers. Let’s take a look at some photos from Ivy and Ink Photography from her lovely wedding day!

Morgan’s cascading bridal bouquet was a mix of white Garden Roses, lavender Garden Roses, plum Tea Roses, purple Heather, and Lamb’s Ear.

The bridesmaids carried the same mix of flowers in round handtied style bridesmaid bouquets. I was so pleased that the plum tea Roses matched their dresses to perfectly!

“ I got so many compliments on the flowers for the wedding! I can’t thank you enough for them! ”

Morgan wanted matching centerpieces but didn’t want to budget for full finished arrangements. She had the great idea to buy bulk amounts of Roses and Baby’s Breath to make her own centerpieces. They added the perfect amount of floral touch to her reception and she did a great job arranging them herself!

I wanted to share Morgan’s cake with you as a great example of how to add just a touch of florals to your cake, without going over board. The rustic look of her cake and cake stand, along with that custom topper IS the feature. Adding a big floral piece really would have taken away from those unique elements. I think this was a great decision to add just a few flowers around the base of the cake to incorporate the them and colors without it being all about the flowers.

Here’s one last breathtaking shot of Morgan from the talented Ivy and Ink Photography.

I’m shopping for my bouquet right now and am wondering if there’s a standard size for brides? I’m going with silk flowers because what I want will not be in season and I’m finding that most websites describe the size in diameter – looking at my ruler simply isn’t cutting it, so I want to know the size of your bouquets! Just to clarify, I’m going for something with roses, peonies and ranunculus. I’ve attached a picture of my dress if that helps, there’s a belt that goes with it. Please help

I have always heard that your bouquet shouldnt be bigger than your head. Smaller bouquets are in nowadays. Your dress isnt super poofy so I wouldnt go with a large Bouquet.

What site are you looking at to buy them from??

Just random Googling! I’ve seen some on Etsy. Any recommended sites would be good, too.

How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

Some say they are 6-7 inches in diameter. Others 11-12. I’m not sure what standard is.

I would watch some youtube tutorials, I saw one that used only 18 roses and I thought it was too small. So I would do like 25-30 stems.

Also if you have a hobby lobby near you they’re on sale right now 50% off.

I think the number of flowers you use depends on the type (size) of flowers to tell you the truth. If you are using all large flowers then you would need to use less to get the size you like/want, but if they are all small flowers then you would need way more.

**The Bridal Bouquet is usually always larger than the BM bouquets.**

Upon a quick google search, I have stumbled across these answers –

My florist quoted somewhere between 24-30 flowers (roses & orchids)

Mine had 35 white roses with lilies of the valley scattered on the perimeter (didn’t say how many Lilies it had though)

I used a bunch of roses (so 25 stems), 3 stems of hydrangea, baby’s breath, and greenery and it was a pretty large bouquet. For bridesmaids’ bouquets, I used about 10 roses + greenery.

It depends on the look you’re going for. Some bouquets are larger and some are smaller – overall, it should be in proportion to you and the dress.

If you think that picking a wedding bouquet is the easiest part of the most important day of your life, you are very wrong! Choosing a bouquet for your wedding is a very important part of the entire event.

Handy Flowers, a London based flower shop , says that they have had a lot of situations where the bride didn’t realize this but when she saw the offer she quickly changed her mind about everything.

A perfect wedding bouquet will capture the bride’s signature look. It is like a cherry on top of a cake. It makes everything look better and picking the right one improves everything. After you take a look at your wedding photos you will see what we are talking about.

But now, let’s look at some prime examples of wedding bouquets that you can choose from.

A Hand-Tied Bouquet

A hand-tied bouquet is exactly what its name states. A bunch of flowers tied up together with different stems and a different number of flowers. It is probably the simplest type of a bouquet yet a very beautiful one. It is going well with a classic look and in some ways seems kind of rustic.

The best thing about a hand-tied bouquet is that it offers a lot of flexibility for the bride. It goes with absolutely anything and will not create additional problems. Also, the florist will have not problems making it and will do it really fast as well.

Biedermeier Bouquet

How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

A Biedermeier bouquet is a very popular wedding bouquet. It was named after European style interior design and has been used in bridal ceremonies for a long time. It is characterized by placing contrasting colored flowers in a tight concentric circle.

It gives a very dramatic effect when witnessed live. That is why this type of bouquet is best used for stylish and posh weddings.

Round Bouquet

The round bouquet has been around for centuries and will most likely never go out of fashion. It gives the florist a lot of freedom to create in order to match the customers wants and needs.

It is designed by choosing a specific flower with a single color and making a round-shaped bouquet with it. This bouquet is actually comprised of more flowers than greenery.

What is interesting to note about a round bouquet is that is not specifically only a wedding bouquet. It can be used for all types of occasions and is almost universal in its use. But, it also means that it will probably never go out of style.

Pomander Bouquet

How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

The Pomander bouquet, also referred to as the kissing bouquet, has been gaining popularity in recent years. It is a very unusual wedding bouquet because of its style and was mostly used by bridesmaids or flower girls. But, in recent times, brides have taken a liking to it and are using it as their wedding bouquets.

It consists of many different flowers tied up in a ball. It actually gives the florist a lot of leeway as they can use both flowers and greenery to make it. Wildflowers are particularly popular these days. The ball is tied by a ribbon and is meant to be carried by hanging from the ribbon.

Nosegay Bouquet

A Nosegay bouquet is not only beautiful it is also one of the most popular throw bouquets. It is made out of different flowers and greenery and also uses support for its structure. It is made out of flowers that are wrapped tightly together with lace or ribbon. Also important is that all flowers are cut to the same length.

The bouqet mainly uses smaller flowers to make and is generally small in its size overall. In some countries, it is mostly used for bridesmaids but is very popular with brides also. It is exquisite and can go with everything.

Cascade Bouquet

How to arrange a cascade bridal bouquet

The Cascade bouget is a traditional type of a bouquet most seen in Britain. It can be big or small, depending on the bride’s needs, but traditionally speaking it is a large type of a bouquet. Many agree that this is a very extravagant type of wedding bouquet and is used for glamorous weddings.

It is arranged in a way that it looks like the flowers are flowing or dropping out of the bride’s hands towards her feet. Most propel refer to it as a trailing bouquet or a teardrop bouget as well. Floral designers say that this is a very popular type of a bouquet in recent times and a lot of brides like it.

Pageant Bouquet

A Pageant bouquet is a universal type of a bouquet. It suits any occasion and can be worn on different types of dress. It is usually long and incorporates different types of flowers and colors. Florists can express themselves and their creativity by devising this kind of a bouquet.

Because of the flexibility of this type of a bouquet, brides have taken a liking to it as well. There isn’t an occasion that cannot be made better with a pageant bouquet. So that is one of the main reasons it suits weddings the best.

A classic white bouquet works well in all seasons and can make a casual wedding graceful and refined. A lovely flower choice for a white wedding bouquet; calla lily, lily of the valley, roses, anemones, white tiger lily, gladiolus, gardenia, stephanotis and freesia.

White signifies purity, innocence, humility and a new beginning, it also depicts faith and is associated with light and is considered the colour of perfection. White flowers are most often used in bridal bouquets along with green leafy foilage. The green colour is very soothing and relaxing, helping the bride with anxiety and nervousness on the most important day of her life, her wedding day.
