FANCY being on Catchphrase, winning a fortune, meeting Stephen Mulhern and – more importantly – Mr Chips?

Here's everything you need to know about being a contestant on the popular ITV game show.

How to appear on a game show

How do I apply for Catchphrase?

Casting bosses at Catchphrase are always on the lookout for people with big personalities who want the chance to win thousands of pounds.

If you are up for some fun, can 'say what you see' and would quite like to be on TV with Stephen Mulhern, then chances are they want to hear from you.

Applications are currently closed but you can get ahead of the curve by registering your interest here and being one of the first to receive an application form when they next open. The latest application announcements are also revealed on Twitter.

What's the criteria for Catchphrase contestants?

Applicants must be eighteen years of age or over and a permanent legal resident in the UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands.

You can’t be related or employed by the producer, the broadcaster or anyone associated with the show.

Sounds easy enough.

How to appear on a game show

What’s on the Catchphrase application form?

In the past the application form has typically asked why you love Catchphrase, what you do for a living, if you have ever been on TV before and what you would do with the prize money?

First and foremost the show bosses want to see your personality, so make sure that shines through in your answers.

The form encourages you to share interesting facts about yourself, your hobbies, interests, what makes you stand out from the crowd, hidden talents, party tricks – and anything that could shock them.

They want to know if you’ve ever met anyone famous, your most embarrassing moments and any unusual habits, phobias or nicknames – try and make your answers as funny as possible.

The form also goes on to ask if you have any criminal convictions or medical conditions and how many times a day you go to the loo.

OK, not that last one.

You’ll also need to upload a photo of yourself and a 30 second video telling them why you’d be a great contestant.

How to be connected to Xbox Live but not show up on your friends lists.

There are times where you might want to appear offline on Xbox Series X / S or Xbox One.

Perhaps you want to play a game in peace without being hassled by party invites – or perhaps you want to hide that you’re booting up Skyrim again when you’ve told your friends you promised to play their recommendations.

Whatever the reason, though yanking the ethernet cable from the back of the console or turning off your wifi in the console settings are probably the most fool proof way to hide your online status, you might want to still be connected to the internet and hide your online status all the same.

This page explains how to appear offline on Xbox Series X / S (and Xbox One, if you have the latest dashboard update) as well as on the Xbox mobile app.

Digital Foundry takes an inside look at how Microsoft redefined the console form factor with Xbox Series X.

How to appear offline on Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One

To go offline, press the Guide button (the glowing Xbox logo) on your controller. This will overlay a menu on the left side of the screen.

Now go all the way to the right, to Profile and System.

Highlight the top-most option of the list, which will feature your username, and select it.

Now go down to the bottom option, and press the A button. This allows you to change your online status to one of three things – Appear Online, Appear Offline, or Do Not Disturb.

Do Not Disturb is particularly useful if you want to appear online, but not want to be hassled by notifications, messages or invites. Perfect for when you need to concentrate on a particularly difficult section of a game, watching a movie, or still want to show up on friends lists without committing to playing with anyone.

How to appear offline on the Xbox mobile app

You can also appear offline by using the Xbox mobile app – which, as with most things on a phone, is quicker than easier than navigating menus with a controller.

To go offline or online on the Xbox mobile app, tap the right-most icon in the bottom navigation bar, to come to your profile screen.

Now tap the button that says ‘Appear Offline’ or ‘Appear Online’.

Unlike on the console itself, there is no drop down menu – so one tap is all you need to toggle between the two.

Note there is no Do Not Disturb option to choose from the app – that has to be done from the console itself.

Note, like the Xbox console interface, it’s possible the layout will change over time after the publication of this article.

If the option isn’t where mentioned above, check for wherever the profile is on the app, and the Appear Offline or Appear Online options should be visible.

Ever wanted to get your family together and play the Feud? Here's how you can apply to play and get the opportunity to whoop it up with Steve Harvey.

Family Feud has several different ways for you to apply to be a contestant.

Before you submit an application or attend a casting call, however, you'll need to make sure that you're eligible. Since Feud is played as a team game and teams are made up of family members, there are extra requirements for this show that may not exist for others. Eligibility requirements for Feud are posted when casting is underway, but a few guidelines for you to keep in mind are:

    • All family members on the team must be related to each other by blood, marriage, or adoption.
    • Nobody on the team may be related to anyone working for Debmar-Mercury or any other company directly associated with the production of the show. Likewise, no team member may be running for political office.
    • If any team member has been on Family Feud before, his or her appearance must have occurred ten years ago or longer.
    • No team member may have appeared on more than two game shows in the past 12 months.
    • Plan for more than five family members to audition – some will get cut, but you'll have a better chance at having the type of players the casting staff is looking for.
    • All contestants must be a legal resident of the U.S.

Just like any other game show, Feud is looking for contestants that are interesting and enthusiastic.

Still think you and your family would be perfect for the show? Then it's time to choose how you'd like to apply!

How to Apply for Family Feud

Your first stop in your quest for contestant-dom is the official Family Feud website. There you’ll find all of the details for the various application methods. You’ll also want to check out the actual eligibility requirements (as they can change), and read all of the available information about becoming a contestant. Remember, you’ll need to follow all instructions and adhere to all of the rules if you want to have a chance at playing the game.

The first way to apply is to attend an open casting call. These calls are set up throughout the year, so keep checking the website to find out when and where they’re being held. Also read up to find out what you’ll need to bring with you, like photo ID and a completed application form for example.

You can also apply for Family Feud online. This option is perfect for anyone who can't wait until a casting call hits their hometown. In order to apply online, you'll have to create a video submission of you and your family and make sure that all of the family members who you want on your team are included in the video. Once the video is complete you have the option of uploading it to YouTube or mailing in a DVD copy.

If you choose to apply with a video, make sure you follow all of the instructions on the Family Feud site’s tryout page. There are details about format and what they want to see, so don’t forget to note all of the requirements and stick to them.

If you ever have questions about applying to be a contestant on Family Feud, you can contact their extremely handy Contestant Department Hotline at 1-323-762-8467. Good luck to those who apply!

I would hope that by now you’ve heard of the PC Gaming Show. It’s the first-ever E3 show dedicated to the power and glory that is the PC, and we’ve got a great lineup of guests coming to the party, including, among many others, Blizzard, Bohemia, Paradox, Square Enix, CCP, Fullbright, and AMD. Today the list grew again, as Microsoft announced that it’s hopped on board as both a sponsor and a participant.

Microsoft’s Head of Xbox will appear on stage as part of the first ever PC Gaming Show at E3 on June 16.

“For us, the PC Gaming Show is the ideal place to speak directly to PC gamers, and it’s a great time to talk about Windows 10 – the best operating system we’ve ever created for gamers on PCs,” Microsoft’s Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said. “With Windows 10, we’re bringing the best of Xbox with the best of Windows gaming, including Xbox Live and the new Xbox app, Game DVR for nearly every game, and DirectX 12 for better gaming graphics and performance.”

It may seem a little incongruous to be talking about Xbox at the PC Gaming Show, but Microsoft is clearly seeking to establish the platform as an “ecosystem.” Windows 10 will feature an Xbox app, and Spencer told us in a March interview that “Xbox is now a gaming brand,” rather than merely a game console.

This week we spoke with Spencer about what Microsoft has in mind for the show, its vision for the future of PC gaming, and having the Xbox brand so visible at a PC gaming event. You can read the whole thing right here, but what’s beyond doubt is that Microsoft remain integral to the PC platform for most of us, so it will be interesting to hear the company’s plans.

The PC Gaming Show takes place from 5-8 pm PT on June 16 and will be streamed live on our Twitch channel. Don’t miss it!

Like any social media or chat service, your PS4 can set your status so friends and other players know when you’re online and ready to play.

If there are times you’d prefer to play in solitude and not get pestered by other people, though, you can change your status so you appear offline.

When you set your status to offline, it will remain that way until you turn it off and manually set your status to online. The offline status will persist even if you power down the PS4 and later turn it back on again.

Also, be aware that if you and your friends are playing the same online game, you might appear online to them within that game, even if your status is set to offline.

There is more to Doctor Who than the television show. There is a long tradition of tie-in materials creating their own additions to the Doctor Who universe, and the 13th Doctor (as played by Jodie Whittaker) is no exception. There are comic books, comic strips, books, and even video games, all set within the 13th Doctors era, and featuring the fam. Some of the ideas created during this era of tie-in media have been very strong, and deserving of a spotlight in the television show in their own right.

Although Captain Jack recently showed up in Revolution of the Daleks, Torchwood only received a mention. In fact, apart from a trip to MI6, spy agencies have been noticeably absent from Doctor Who as of late. That could be changed in the upcoming 13th series, but what if the show had an episode with The Legion of Smoke instead? The Legion of Smoke made its debut in the novel, Doctor Who: Combat Magicks, and it’s very similar to Torchwood, only it’s Roman. On its own, a simple change of time period might not sound very impressive, but it completely changes the context with which an episode could tackle them. A secret agency with technology they shouldn’t have in the 21st century is not so strange, but finding a similar organization in ancient Rome would be a much greater shock for the main characters. In Combat Magicks, there is a scene in which Ryan is unable to fool a Roman with his mobile phone because she is used to alien technology, and that twist to the expected could be explored to get success in an episode of the show. It could also be the opportunity to introduce a companion not from the present day, with one of the legion’s members joining the Doctor on her adventures.

It’s not just prospective allies that the show could pick from its tie-in media, but enemies as well, and the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip has an enemy that would be perfect; Berakka Dogbolter. Berakka is a media mogul with a grudge against the Doctor due to the latter’s dealing with the former’s father. The idea of a media mogul with a beef against the Doctor is one with a lot of potential for the show proper because she could be used in different ways depending on the episode. She could be a background presence, popping up on a show within the show for short cameos so the audience can see more of the consequences of the Doctor’s actions, or how the Doctor herself is viewed by the people who are aware of her actions. Alternatively, she could be the main threat of the episode, using her vast resources out of greed or a desire for vengeance. Using her in the show proper would be a chance for the writers to come up with another recurring character, something which occasionally feels lacking from Doctor Who outside of the monsters or the companions.

How to appear on a game show

Plot elements from the tie-ins could also be used when constructing a mystery for a given season. It’s been done before to great effect, with the episodes Human Nature and The Family of Blood serving as adaptations of Human Nature, a Doctor Who book. In the comic book story arc, Hidden Human History, the companions mention a podcast which they are a fan of, and the fan discovers that the podcast contains information about periods in history which coincide with their adventures.

An in-universe podcast about the Doctor’s adventures could be a great puzzle for her to solve. She could go to different events it mentions in the hope of figuring out who is making it, and why. The comic had a touching reveal about the podcaster’s identity, but a future series could come up with its own solution. Maybe it’s an enemy trying to lay a trap, maybe it’s a companion trying to leave a warning from the future. Maybe it’s something else entirely. There is so much that could be done with it that it would be a shame not to see it used on-screen one day. Jordan Peele’s take on TV classic, The Twilight Zone has already proven how much tension could be made with this premise. The concept is basic enough to be easily understood, and it’s open-ended enough for the show’s writers to put their own spin on it.

The greater Who Universe is a gold mine of characters, monsters, and plot points. There is so much to be gained from taking these ideas and seeing what could be done with them given the benefit of the TV show and the visual spectacles they could offer. If nothing else, going to the tie-in media for inspiration could be just what the writer’s need to help them move away from relying on the show’s favorite faces, and it would be a good way to show fans who stick to the television show what they have been missing.

    • You can Type in whatever status in the message box.

Also, in case you don’t want anyone to know what game you are playing, then you can turn off the game status. then no one can see the game in discord servers what you are playing.

Although I am not sure it may work for unverified games, it works 100% for verified games. you can give it a try and you can toggle the game status to on. So Discord will automatically Verify the game that you are playing on your device.

    Conclusion

This methods works fine, i have tried it myself for How To Show What Game You are Playing on Discord. you can use this to show your friends which game you are playing currently, or its your choice you can turn it off also, then no one can see which game you are playing

The Wheel is the latest game show getting audiences in a spin on Saturday nights.

BAFTA award-winning Michael McIntyre hosts the BBC game show, which is packed with huge stars, big laughs and a really, really big wheel.

The premise of The Wheel involves three contestants who hope to answer their way to a fortune, and are helped by the seven celebrities around them. Each celebrity has brought one area of expertise to the show – and it is in these areas that the contestants must answer questions.

The contestants themselves are underneath The Wheel, on another smaller wheel. This Contestant Wheel is spun, and whichever contestant is randomly selected, rises up on their chair, to take their place at the centre of the main stage and begin the game.

If you see yourself rising up to take on the wheel, how can one apply for the series?

How to apply for BBC’s The Wheel

Hopeful participants were asked to submit their applications online for the season currently airing.

However, applications closed on May 24, 2021.

It isn’t clear when (or if) a new season will go ahead, but if it does, applications will likely open through that website.

If applications do reopen, you must be at least 18-years-old to appear on the show.

When the second season – currently airing – was confirmed, Michael McIntyre said in a statement: ‘I am thrilled by the success of The Wheel. The series was so much fun to host and I love how the gameplay in every show was so different but always entertaining and suspenseful.

‘And having socially distanced strangers sing “The Wheel” to me on my daily walk has been the unexpected pleasure of lockdown!’

The Wheel continues tonight on BBC One at 8:30pm

The Tournament is a new daytime game show — and it’s looking for contestants!

How to appear on a game show

The Tournament is the latest BBC1 daytime game show, combining the quiz format we know and love with the thrill of a sporting arena. This new show looks like an ideal watch for sports fans looking to experience more of the competitive drama we know and love.

According to the BBC, this will be the “ultimate test of strategy, general knowledge, and strong nerve under pressure” as contestants go head to head hoping to be crowned champion at the end of it.

Interested? Here’s what we know about BBC1’s The Tournament so far.

    The Tournament release date

The Tournament doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but we’ll let you know when the BBC confirms one.

What’s the premise of The Tournament?

Each episode of The Tournament will see eight contestants competing in a series of fast-paced quiz battles, hoping they can eliminate their opponents from the day’s game and walk away victorious with a cash prize. It’s been confirmed that the first run will feature 25 different episodes.

Speaking about the show, Carla-Maria Lawson, Head of Daytime and Early Peak, says: “The Tournament and The Bridge Of Lies were stand out formats in a competitive field, both combining distinctive edge-of-seat gameplay with a plethora of general knowledge to satisfy viewers who love to play along at home.”

    Who’s hosting the game show?

Presenter, pundit, and former professional footballer Alex Scott will be hosting The Tournament. She’s no stranger to high pressure environments, having represented Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics as well as playing as a right-back for Arsenal women’s football team.

Alex says: “To be hosting this new BBC quiz show is exciting and I can’t wait to get started. The Tournament promises all the drama and tension of a penalty shootout; it’s a show where favourites can be knocked out of the competition and underdogs can come back from the brink of defeat to claim victory. I’m sure it’ll be a firm favourite with quiz fans and new viewers alike.”

How can we apply for The Tournament?

If you like the sound of The Tournament and want to get involved, you’re in luck! The BBC are accepting applications, and all you have to do is head to the online application form and follow the instructions there.

Applicants must be 18 or older, a British citizen and legally have the right to reside in the UK. Full terms and conditions are outlined on the form.

How to appear on a game show

How to appear offline on Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One

To go offline, press the Guide button (the glowing Xbox logo) on your controller. This will overlay a menu on the left side of the screen.

Now go all the way to the right, to Profile and System.

How to appear on a game show

Highlight the top-most option of the list, which will feature your username, and select it.

Now go down to the bottom option, and press the A button. This allows you to change your online status to one of three things – Appear Online, Appear Offline, or Do Not Disturb.

How to appear on a game show

Do Not Disturb is particularly useful if you want to appear online, but not want to be hassled by notifications, messages or invites. Perfect for when you need to concentrate on a particularly difficult section of a game, watching a movie, or still want to show up on friends lists without committing to playing with anyone.

How to appear on a game show

How to appear offline on the Xbox mobile app

How to appear on a game show

I have a GAME OVER screen that is functioning when your health is depleted. This GAME OVER screen is executed with the show_go_screen. I tried to just duplicate the method for the show_go_screen into my show_winning() function for the other screen. I rigged this show winning function by setting your health back to normal when going back to the game. However once you have gone to the YOU WIN screen and back to the game you cannot go to the YOU WIN screen again. I have included the code for my player shield below (which determine when there is a GAME OVER/YOUWIN event) I have also included the methods for the show_go_screen (which is for GAME OVER) and the code for show_winning() method (which is for the YOU WIN screen). If someone can tell me how to best modify my code to get the desired result.

    1 Answer 1

If the player or the enemy have less than zero health, set self.playing = False which stops the game’s while loop. Then the show_go_screen method of the game instance g is called in the outermost while loop.

In the show_go_screen method, blit the background image and the text (I created the BACKGROUND_IMG and the FONT object globally), flip the display and start another while loop with an event loop in which you check if the user wants to quit or continue. If the user quits, you set self.running to False so that the outer while loop will stop as well, because its condition is while g.running: . If space is pressed, you can just return from this show_go_screen method and the outer while loop calls g.new() what resets the game.

If you want to make more complex scenes/states, I recommend to use a finite state machine like this. It’s actually just a scene manager class which allows you to switch between the different scenes/states of the game.

Getting games to appear in my Dolphin list

    • 2 Vote(s) – 3 Average

Hello and thanks in advance. I’m trying to play Twilight Princess with AA on dolphin. I know that I’ll have to adjust the specific game properites to ensure that it will run fast enough (Hopefully). The problem is that I can’t get the game to appear in dolphin’s list of ISOs. I can boot up the game just fine from finder (on a mac) but it won’t appear on the list so I can’t then go and right click it to adjust that game’s specific properties.

I can get Wind Waker to appear on that list just fine but I don’t know how I did it.

    Thank you again in advance.

Windows 10 has a built-in FPS counter hidden in its little-known Xbox Game Bar. Despite its name, the Xbox Game Bar is a powerful full-screen overlay you can use in PC games. Here’s how to show your frames per second (FPS) in games.

This feature is part of the Game Bar. To open it, press Windows+G. (If the Game Bar doesn’t appear, head to Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar and ensure that it’s toggled to “On.” You can also choose a custom keyboard shortcut for launching it from here.)

Look for the floating “Performance” widget in the Game Bar overlay.

How to appear on a game show

If you don’t see the floating Performance panel, click the menu button on the bar at the top of your screen and click “Performance” to show it.

How to appear on a game show

Click the “FPS” option in the floating Performance window. The first time that you click this option, you’ll see a message saying that you need expanded User Account Control access to get FPS info about PC games.

Click “Request Access” to continue. You’ll be prompted to agree to a User Account Control prompt.

After confirming the UAC prompt, you’ll need to restart your PC to enable this feature. The FPS meter will not function until your reboot.

How to appear on a game show

After restarting your PC, launch a PC game and open the Game Bar. The Performance widget will show your frames per second (FPS) along with your CPU, GPU, VRAM (video RAM), and RAM usage.

To see a graph of the FPS over time, click the “FPS” category. You may need to hover your mouse cursor over the widget and click the right arrow (“>”) button to show the graph if the floating widget is in its small form.

To keep the FPS meter always on-screen at all times, click the “Pin” icon at the top of the floating widget in the Game Bar interface. Now, even when you hide the Game Bar, it will stay on your screen and always appear on top of your gameplay until you unpin it.

How to appear on a game show

You can reposition the floating window on your screen by dragging it around in the Game Bar overlay. You can also choose its size.

How to appear on a game show

To get rid of the floating Performance window, go back to the Game Bar overlay (Windows+G) and click the “Unpin” button. It will then only appear when you pull up the Game Bar overlay.

Want to appear offline while you’re playing The Last of Us Part II on your PS4? Here’s how.

The feature of ‘appearing offline’ has been in so many applications, and the PS4 is no exception!

Appearing offline can help make you focus on a specific game: when you’re hiding from zombies in The Last of Us Part II, you don’t suddenly want an invite to CoD: Warzone popping up!

It also means that once the setting changes to ‘Online’, you’re ready for all the matches, so you can manage your time even better, especially if you’ve got more time to play on the PS4 for now.

With that, here’s a guide on how to appear offline on your PS4.

How to appear offline on PS4

To appear invisible to your friends, all you need to do is the following:

Fire up the PS4 home screen, and go to your profile.

Once your profile shows, go to the ‘Set Online Status’ box and highlight it.

You will be prompted to appear online or offline. Select ‘Appear Offline’, and voila, you are now invisible.

Why to appear offline on PS4

Setting it offline also applies to when you’re playing on PS Now or even on the Vita, so you will not be disturbed.

But to note, if you are playing a multiplayer session with friends, your status will appear ‘online’, so other friends may see this change on status. Whether if its a bug or how the PlayStation Network operates is unknown, but it’s something to be aware of.

All of this does make one wonder as to how the PS5 will also handle this; could you set it so that you appear ‘offline’ indefinitely to certain friends, or maybe even in custom groups, there’s a lot of room for improvement here.

But for now, enjoy the fact that you can play your favourite game in peace and free of multiplayer-invites.

If you’re a PC gamer, Steam is likely your best friend. Not only is it a great way to organize all your games, but it also has amazing sales, manages DLC, mods, and offers a forum and active community for every game it features. If you’re new to Steam or are a returning player, do you know how to appear offline in Steam?

How to appear on a game show

I’ll cover that and a few other neat tricks too. All will make your time on the gaming platform more productive! Steam is primarily a gaming platform but it does have a social element. It isn’t as intrusive as Facebook or as annoying as Snapchat though. Instead, the social side allows you to game with friends to form co-op groups, raids, or whatever you like.

As part of our Steam coverage, we have put together this tip sheet of basic hints and tricks for using Steam. It is designed especially for newbies or returning users and offers some ideas of things you can do with Steam to make your life easier.

How to appear on a game show

How to Appear Offline in Steam

If you want to play in privacy for a while, you can. While friends who game are amazing, sometimes you want a little alone time to indulge in a guilty secret game or just to play alone for a while.

Usually, when you’re logged into Steam, you show as online to your Steam friends. You can change that if you want. The instructions for going offline may vary whether you’re using a Mac or PC.

    1. Open Steam and select Friends from the top menu.
    2. Select Offline from the drop-down.

Once Steam picks up the change, you should now appear as offline to everyone on your friends’ list. At very busy times, this can take a few minutes to update for some reason but will eventually show you as offline.

Don’t See an Option to go Offline

Some users have stated that they do not see an option to toggle their online/offline status. If you’re having difficulty changing your status, try these troubleshooting tips:

    • Verify your internet connection – Turn your wifi off and back on again to ensure you have a strong connection.
    • Clear the cache – Whether you’re using the browser or app, try clearing the cache by going through your task manager.
    • Logout and back in – Go to the profile option and click to access the dropdown and click ‘Logout’. Then log back in.
    • Check your internet settings – Go to advanced settings in your browser and ensure that ‘Enable Enhanced Protected Mode’ is unchecked.

If you have more issues you can visit the Steam Support page for more help.

    More Windows Guides:

Add non-Steam Games to Your Library

You can use Steam to manage your other installed games too if you like. It won’t work for every game but the majority of AAA games will work. If another game portal is having a sale but you still want Steam to manage everything or you want to game with friends, you can.

    1. Open Steam and select Games from the top menu.
    2. Select “Add a non-Steam Game To My Library.”
    3. Select the game(s) from the list and check the box next to the ones you want to add to Steam.

If you have just bought a game but have yet to install it, you can add the code to Steam and use it through the platform.

    1. Open Steam and select Games from the top menu.
    2. Select “Activate A Product” on Steam.
    3. Select Next in the pop-up window and then agree the T&Cs.
    4. Add the serial code in the next window. Allow Steam to recognize the code.
    5. Download the game through Steam as usual.

How to appear on a game show

    Backup your Save Games

I found out the hard way that even though Steam says it backs up your games, it doesn’t do it for all games. Some games either don’t allow Steam backups or just don’t work. So you may think your save games are safe but they may not be. Fortunately you can back up your own save games too.

    1. Open Steam and go to your Library.
    2. Select the game you want to back up.
    3. Right-click and select Backup Game Files.
    4. Set the destination in the pop-up box.

You can use a different hard disk or even OneDrive if you’re a Windows user. In the event of disk failure or having to rebuild your PC, you don’t lose your game saves and can rebuild your library quickly.

Move Steam to a Different Drive

If you have just invested in a new SSD and want to move your Steam installation to make the most of the extra speed, you can. It isn’t as straightforward as it could be but can be done. You can move just your games if you prefer but I think it’s tidier to move the entire package.

    1. Exit Steam and navigate to the Steam installation folder.
    2. Copy the SteamApps and User Data folder to your new drive.
    3. Uninstall Steam from the old drive. .
    4. Copy the SteamApps and User Data folder into your new Steam installation folder.
    5. Start Steam and log in.

Your games should appear in your Library and be ready to play. Some may have to install dependencies first but should work fine. If a game gives you problems, right-click it, select Properties, then click Local Files tab and select Verify the Integrity of Game Files.

Do you need a program that you can use to simultaneously voice/video chat, stream from your PC, and message friends, all while gaming? Discord is an instant messaging software that has lots of features and is a top choice for gamers to connect with their friends.

You can download Discord for free on any PC. All you need to do to start using it is create an account. Once you do, you will be able to have access to all of Discord’s features. This includes its own in-game overlay.

What is this overlay, though, and what is it used for? Here you can learn more about this Discord overlay feature, why it’s so useful, and how you can use it yourself while playing your favorite games.

    What Is Discord’s In-Game Overlay?

This feature essentially lets you use Discord’s messaging and voice chatting while playing a game. You can open and close it at any point, making it simple to use even while in the midst of gaming.

It’s best to use when you’re playing a game with other people, so you can chat and coordinate easily while you play. It’s also useful for when you want to stream your gameplay over Discord and manage it while you’re in-game.

Discord makes using this feature very easy and customizable to your preferences. You can use the Discord overlay with just the games you select, and you can have the overlay show up over your game, or set it to be completely invisible unless you open it up yourself.

How To Open The Discord Overlay

Before opening your game, go into Discord and click on the User Settings. This is a small gear icon located at the bottom of the window, next to your username.

Under the App Settings, click on the Overlay option. Toggle Enable In-Game Overlay to on by clicking the slider. You can also change what button combination brings up the overlay in-game by clicking the keyboard icon underneath Toggle Overlay Lock.

How to appear on a game show

You can also change settings for displaying names, avatars, and other users, as well as notifications that pop up while you’re gaming.

Next, go to Game Activity under the App Settings. You should see a list of games that have been connected to Discord. If you don’t see any, you can connect a game by opening it, then clicking on Add it! at the top. You can also connect your Steam account or other gaming platform to see your games. To do this, click on Connections under the User Settings.

Next to your games you will see an icon of a computer. You can toggle the overlay to be on or off for each specific game. Make sure the overlay is on for the games you want to play with it.

Now, open the game you want to play using the overlay. You can now use the keyboard shortcut Shift + ‘ to open the overlay, or whatever shortcut you set to open the overlay.

How To Use The Discord Overlay

After opening the overlay, you can open any chats you may be part of. You can also search for users or channels you want to start a chat in.

In the overlay, you can direct message or voice chat. To start a voice chat, you can click on the phone icon in the top right. Depending on how you altered your settings for the overlay, a user’s name will show up when voice chatting. You’ll be able to see all users in the voice chat in the upper left corner, or you can open the overlay and move the voice chat box to anywhere on the screen.

How to appear on a game show

You can also pin a chat to have it stay open even when you close the overlay. To do this, click on the thumbtack icon in the top of the window. The chat should detach from the sidebar, and you’ll have the ability to move the chatbox around and resize it so it doesn’t interfere with your game.

You can press the ] key to type in the chat, or whatever key you may have set this action to in Discord. Also, if you want to change the opacity of the chat box, you can do so by selecting Opacity in the top right and sliding the bar until you find the opacity level you like.

How to appear on a game show

Another option you have is to stream your gameplay over Discord. If you’re in a server channel, you can click on the computer icon in the bottom corner next to the title of your game. This will start streaming your game over the server to those who choose to watch.

How to appear on a game show

You can change the settings of the Discord overlay as well while you’re in-game. Once the overlay is opened, navigate to the gear icon to open the settings. You can change the same ones under the Overlay Settings in Discord’s main program.

I have a Windows 8 laptop which I play Sins of a Solar Empire on and I want to move it to my second monitor which is connected via a VGA cable. How would I do that? Windows + shift + ← or → does move normal windows from monitor to monitor but it doesn’t move my game for some reason. The game is full screen. Any idea how?

    I may have a solution/workaround if you’re using windows 8.1:

    1. Make your “secondary” (the one you want the game to display the game on) as primary.
    2. Right-click your taskbar and unlock it.
    3. Drag and drop your “primary” taskbar (The one with the clock) to your now secondary monitor (the one you don’t want the game to be displayed on)
    4. Right-click your taskbar and go to properties, and go to the navigation tab.
    5. Check the box stating: “Show Start on the display I’m using when i go to Start and hit OK or Apply
    6. Drag and drop all your icons from your now Primary monitor to the now secondary monitor.

This makes the secondary monitor feel like the primary, and the games start on the “secondary” monitor.

Windows should treat this as a “profile” which means that when you unplug your external monitor your icons and taskbar should stay on the correct screen, and when you plug it back in, it should go to the defined settings, but I’m not sure about this.

    I hope this helps.

A solution I am using involves Steam. Install Steam and start it up in Big Picture mode, under display settings, select the monitor you want to play the game on. By doing this steam changes the windows primary display temporarily until you leave big picture mode. You can add non steam games to your steam library as shortcuts so you can launch any game(or any other program) via Big Picture which launches on the display you chosen.

    1. Launch Game.
    2. Hit Alt + Enter.
    3. Move your windowed game across to the desired monitor.
    4. Click the game.
    5. Hit Alt + Enter.
    6. Play. Interesting solutions here. But ive never encountered a program that didnt un fullscreen from alt + Enter.

One option is to switching your machine to “projector only” mode. Hit “windows key” + P and select projector only mode. This will treat your machine as having only one monitor (in this case, the secondary monitor).

You won’t see any more output on your laptop screen, but you will be able to play the game fullscreen on your secondary monitor without performance loss.

Once your game starts, you can turn off projector mode and the game will stay on your other monitor.

Fullscreen games tend to be limited to the primary monitor (primary output). You can move windowed games to another monitors at some performance cost though. If you set the window to borderless, it will look just fine.

I’ve automated the process of switching the primary display, switching HDMI audio and more in a small tool: https://sourceforge.net/projects/tvgamelauncher/

It’s free and open source, so enjoy!

No. There is a way. First thing you have to do is configure your monitor setup (assuming you have already). After that remain on the screen resolution page. Highlight the the second monitor indicator located in the box under the heading, “Change the appearance of your displays”. Once you have highlighted the second monitor, a little box should appear under the multiple displays tab that says ‘make this my main display’. Check the box and click apply. Viola!

You can only run the game in fullscreen on the monitor it wants to use, because fullscreen games don’t draw the screen through windows desktop manager. Some games, especially newer ones, will let you set the monitor to use from game settings.

For those that don’t let you do that, you can change your primary display or try borderless windowed or fullscreen windowed mode and then move the game to your other monitor. Depending on the game this could decrease or increase performance.

If the answer of @rhomanugen won’t work (some notebooks don’t allow extern TFTs for primary display), then there’s another workaround, though maybe not satisfying:

Change the resolution of the notebook display to NOT fit to the game resolution. Set the resolution of the new monitor to the game resolution.

Fullscreen should now appear on the “fitting screen”.

This is how you remain two screens with a fullscreen on the second monitor (but with a commonly smaller resolution as possible on the first screen).

OK I think I found a solution. I’m not sure about windows 8, but this worked for windows 7 so I’m posting it in case it still works or some one else happens by this and it helps them.

Using the windows screen settings, set the primary window to the monitor you would like to play your game on. This will put all your desktop items (taskbar, shortcuts, etc.) on that monitor.

Right click on an empty space on the taskbar and make sure it is unlocked.

Left click and hold on an empty space on the taskbar and drag it to a different monitor (which ever one your not using for your game).

Select and drag all your desktop shortcuts to the same monitor in step 3.

voila, your ready to go. In order to utilize the other desktop while playing, you may have to make your game windowed vice full screen.

In short, the answer is you probably can’t, not without using external software. Make it your primary display.

Most laptops have a monitor key that is accessed by holding the function (Fn) button. This is used to send the display to the external output and if your lucky, you have the option to send it to both or either one at a time (by pressing it again). Also, most laptops do this automatically if an external display is attached and you close them, but you may have to set it that way in control panel (and tell it not to sleep when closed).

Hold the Fn key: and press whatever key has what looks like a monitor (usually in blue), like on these F5 keys:
