An explicitly confidential Google vision document reveals that the company had a plan to become “the world’s largest game platform,” which included distributing games on Mac.

The internal “need-to-know” document, which was revealed in the Epic Games v. Apple discovery process and spotted by The Verge, outlines a tentative five-year plan to create a single platform where game makers could target players across virtually every screen — including Windows PCs, Macs, smart displays, and TVs with game controller support.

According to the heavily redacted document, titled “Games Futures,” the platform would rely on Google services and a “low-cost universal portable game controller” that would be pairable with virtually any device.

The service would make “every device” into a console and unlock “cross-screen input” by leveraging controller support on smart displays and TVs. Additionally, it appears that the service would be streaming-based, since Google notes that it would “intelligence stream assets for instant play and adapt game to device capabilities.”

It’s important to note that the document appears to outline an ambition rather than a concrete plan. One of the early slides notes that the vision is “Brought to you by ‘partially funded’ and ‘i have a dream’ productions.'”

There are other portions of the document that could hint at Google’s gaming ambitions. For example, the document includes plans on how Google would try and establish the Play Store as an “indie game destination.” It would also require developers to support controllers and cross-platform play, and mandate minimum prices so “super-premium” games would come to the platform.

Additionally, Google outlines some of the steps required before it could make the vision a reality. One of the first steps, for example, would be to bring “emulated, native and streamed games” to Windows.

Of course, Google’s gaming plans and ambitions may have changed since the document was written. Earlier in 2021, for example, Google shut down its Stadia Game Studio, hinting at a redirection.

Although the Mac is hardly thought of as a gaming platform, there are certain aspects of Google’s “Games Future” plan that may be closer to reality. Earlier in 2021, Microsoft announced that Windows 11 users will be able to run Android apps from the Amazon Appstore.

This is fine as long as they would have done it legally, following Apple’s rules and regulations. For some reason I doubt Google would ever have done this totally legally.

ArchStanton

Means nothing. I guarantee you Apple has written a similar document (if they haven’t they aren’t trying hard enough).
Companies will kick around ideas and even put them into outlines. That’s a country mile from implementation. A whole bunch of managers have to OK a plan like that (which diverts a lot of money and people) and these high mangers put their reputations on the line when they go big and it fails. There’s a former VP from Microsoft going “I’m tellin ya! Windows mobile OS could have been a huge success. I know it would have!”.
Big companies are different than politicians in this way: a big VP or upper director at a big company that is very wrong on a product usually gets their office moved from top floor down to the converted storage closet office — with a paper on their new desk that outlines “the benefits of looking for a new career somewhere else”.

Robots78

This sounds a lot like Stadia. Also, “outline an ambition rather than a concrete plan” sounds just like Stadia, or really any Google product. LOL

crowley

Apple’s rules and regulations are not the same as legality.

This just describes Stadia doesn’t it? There was nothing law breaking or rule breaking about Stadia.

Learn how to create a Table of Contents in Google Docs with links that help you organize your content.

Google Docs is one of the most versatile tools available to writers today. It seems basic, yet it is immensely functional.

However, many Google Docs users don’t realize that the tool contains many useful features that enable them to create content more efficiently. A clickable table of content is one such feature in Google Docs. Here’s how you can use it.

How Does a Clickable Table of Contents Work?

Tables of contents are a list at the beginning of any book containing page titles and page numbers.

You might wish to have a clickable Table of Contents if your manuscript contains a lot of pages, as it speeds up the process of moving between sections, rather than making you scroll endlessly.

This allows for easy reading and editing. Also, if you plan to convert the document to a PDF, a clickable Table of Contents is a must-have.

How to Create a Table of Contents in Google Docs

  1. Open the Format menu >Paragraph Styles to add headings to your document.
  2. There are six heading styles to choose from. Use Heading 1 for main titles, Heading 2 for sub-sections, Heading 3 for sections under that, and so on.
  3. To correctly label the headings in your Table of Contents, it is important to follow this rule.
  4. To know if you did it correctly, check the Document’s Outline in the left sidebar. If the headings have a slant in each section, then you are in the right place.

In addition to creating a Table of Contents, let’s also look at how to make available clickable links within your Table of Contents for easy navigation of your document.

How to Create a Clickable Table of Contents in Google Docs

There are two ways to add clickable links to a Table of Contents: automatically and manually. Google Docs does everything it can to make features easy to use, and this is no different.

Technically, both functions are automatic, but we’ll call the second method “Manual” because it takes more than one click to complete it.

Method 1: Automatic

  1. Click Insert > Table of Contents.
  2. You’ll see two available types of Table of Contents. The first with page numbers and the other with blue links.
  3. Select the one with the blue links, and you’ll instantly get a table of contents with headings that readers can use to jump right to specific sections of your document.

Method 2: Manual

  1. If you need to add links to an existing Table of Contents, simply click on each heading and press Ctrl + K or Command + K to bring up the ‘add links’ menu.
  2. If the texts are similar, the heading you want to link to will usually appear at the top of the suggested links.
  3. If you don’t find the heading you’re looking for, click Headings and Bookmarks at the suggestion box’s bottom. You’ll be able to view all available headings and pick the ones you need.

Do More With Google Docs

Without a doubt, Google Docs is a useful tool for writers, regardless of their skill level or needs. Take your productivity to the next level as you discover new features that you didn’t know about before.

You can be more productive when you know the right way to do things on Google Docs. Let’s look at several features that often get overlooked.

When working with text and creating text-based graphics, one question often comes up: how can I distinguish the text from the background and other elements on the page? Adding a border is one way to draw attention to text, either by outlining each letter and/or by having the border wrap around a text box. You don’t need expensive software like Microsoft Word to give your text a little more character in this way – I’ll show you how to do it online for free using an editing tool called Kapwing. Just follow the steps below:

  1. Add text in Kapwing
  2. Create a text border
  3. Customize your background
  4. Download your text

Step 1: Add text in Kapwing

To create text with a border, you’ll first need to type out your text. Head to Kapwing and click “Start Editing“, then click “Text” in the toolbar at the top to immediately create a text box. A menu of options for adjusting the appearance of the text will be revealed to you on the right side of the screen. To create outlined text, choose either “Light” or “Dark” for the outline color.

To spice it up further, add a drop shadow or make text glow by choosing “Drop Shadow” and playing around with the blur, distance, and rotation settings. You can also change the font, text color and background color, or add an animation to your text.

Step 2: Create a text border

To add a border around the text, start by clicking “Elements” in the top toolbar and create a rectangle. Turn it into a border by making the fill color transparent which is represented by the circle with the red slash through it. Move the border to where the text is and use the purple dots at the corners of the border to resize it to fit around the text. There is another set of options to adjust how your border looks: you can change the outline color, line width, and opacity on the right side.

How to add an outline to a google doc on iphone or ipad

If you want a more interesting text border, you can look for one in the “Images” tab by using search terms like “text border png”. The results that don’t have backgrounds are PNGs, which you can click to add to the canvas and resize over the text.

How to add an outline to a google doc on iphone or ipadSearch “text border png” in the Images tab for more options!

Step 3: Customize your background

To save the text box as a transparent PNG to use elsewhere, make the background transparent by clicking the canvas, then selecting the circle with the red slash under “Background Color.”

Alternatively, you can choose a different background color and add other elements to accompany the text. Bring images, GIFs, or videos into the project using the “Upload” tab if they’re already on your device, or use the “Images” tab to source graphics directly from Google Images.
