How to add a phone number on twitter on a pc or mac

Adding a phone number to your account is a great step toward a better Twitter experience. If you’re thinking about adding your number, here are a few benefits:

  • Keeping your account secure. With a phone number on your account, you’ll be able to enroll in security features like login verification.
  • Faster account recovery. If you ever lose access to your account, having a phone number attached can make it easier for you to get back in to Twitter.
  • Connect with friends and contacts. With a phone number on your account, you can easily connect with people you know. Read more about allowing others to find you by your phone number.

Note: You can have the same phone number associated with up to 10 Twitter accounts.

From the navigation menu, tap Settings and privacy .

Tap Account.

Tap Phone Number and verify your password. If you haven’t previously added a phone number, tap Add.
Note: If you have already added a phone number, tapping this button will give you an option to Update number or Delete number. Learn more about updating the phone number on your account.

Enter your phone number in the empty field and tap Next.

Twitter will then send an SMS text message with a verification code to the phone number you added.

Open the Twitter app again and enter the verification code. Tap Verify.

In the top menu, you will either see a navigation menu icon

or your profile icon. Tap whichever icon you have.

Tap Settings and privacy.

Tap Account, then tap Phone number. If you haven’t previously added a phone number, tap Add.
Note: If you have already added a phone number, tapping this button will give you an option to Update phone or Delete phone. Learn more about updating the phone number on your account.

Enter your phone number in the empty field and tap Add phone.

Twitter will then send an SMS text message with a verification code to the phone number you added.

Open the Twitter app again and enter the verification code. Tap Verify.

By receiving iMessages on your Mac computer, you can increase your workflow, as well as keep in touch with those trying to contact you, even if your iPhone is in another room or away from you.

You can add your phone number to your iMessage account and turn it on easily on your Mac to start receiving messages right away.

How to add a phone number to iMessage on a Mac using iPhone settings

1. First, on your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.

2. If you haven’t yet signed in with your Apple ID, do so by tapping “Use your Apple ID for iMessage.”

3. Once signed in, find the section titled “You can receive iMessages to and reply from” and be sure your phone number is selected. If so, it will have a check beside it.

4. If your Mac has already signed in with your Apple ID, you may receive a pop-up on the homescreen asking if you’d like to add your phone number to iMessage and FaceTime. If so, click yes. Once you’ve added your phone number, you can turn it on in iMessage on your Mac.

How to add your phone number on a Mac

1. After you’ve added your phone number for iMessage on your iPhone, launch Messages on your Mac, which can be found under “Applications.”

2. Once you’ve launched Messages (and signed in with your Apple ID), go to Messages > Preferences.

3. In the Preferences menu, select the iMessage icon, which looks like an address or “at” sign.

4. To make sure iMessages come to your Mac, make sure your phone number is selected under the “You can be reached for messages at:” section.

How to remove your phone number from an iPhone and Mac

1. To remove the phone number for iPhone from other devices it may be connected to, on your iPhone go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap where you see your Apple ID. In the pop-up window, tap “Sign Out.”

2. On Mac, launch Messages. Then click Messages > Preferences > iMessage. Under the section “You can be reached for messages at:,” deselect your phone number.

You can use iCloud to automatically keep your photos, files, calendar, and more updated across all your devices where you’re signed in with your Apple ID. (You can even use a Windows PC to access your iCloud data on iCloud.com.) Other services like Apple Music allow you to access additional content across all of your devices. With iCloud and services like Apple Music, no syncing is required.

If you don’t want to use iCloud or other services, you can connect iPhone to your Mac or Windows PC to sync the following items:

Albums, songs, playlists, movies, TV shows, podcasts, books, and audiobooks

Photos and videos

Contacts and calendars

With syncing, you can keep these items up to date between your computer and your iPhone.

Note: If you use iCloud or other services like Apple Music, options for syncing with your computer might not be available.

Set up syncing between your Mac and iPhone

In the Finder sidebar on your Mac, select your iPhone.

Note: To use the Finder to sync content, macOS 10.15 or later is required. With earlier versions of macOS, use iTunes to sync with your Mac.

At the top of the window, click the type of content you want to sync (for example, Movies or Books).

Note: For information about using the Files option, see Transfer files between iPhone and your computer.

Select “Sync [content type] onto [device name].”

By default, all items of a content type are synced, but you can choose to sync individual items, such as selected music, movies, books, or calendars.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each type of content you want to sync, then click Apply.

Your Mac syncs to your iPhone whenever you connect them.

To view or change syncing options, select your iPhone in the Finder sidebar, then choose from the options at the top of the window.

Before disconnecting your iPhone from your Mac, click the Eject button in the Finder sidebar.

Set up syncing between your Windows PC and iPhone

Install or update to the latest version of iTunes on your PC.

In the iTunes app on your PC, click the iPhone button near the top left of the iTunes window.

Select the type of content you want to sync (for example, Movies or Books) in the sidebar on the left.

Note: For information about using the File Sharing option, see Transfer files between iPhone and your computer.

Select Sync to turn on syncing for that type of item.

By default, all items of a content type are synced, but you can choose to sync individual items, such as selected music, movies, books, or calendars.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each type of content you want to include on your iPhone, then click Apply.

By default, your Windows PC syncs to your iPhone whenever you connect them. You can have iTunes ask you before syncing, and if there are some items you never want sync, you can keep them from being synced. See Sync iTunes content on PC with your devices in the iTunes User Guide for Windows.

Turn on Wi-Fi syncing

After you set up syncing between your computer and iPhone, do the following:

In the Finder sidebar on your Mac: Select your iPhone, click General at the top of the window, then select “Show this [device] when on Wi-Fi.”

To use the Finder to turn on Wi-Fi syncing, macOS 10.15 or later is required. With earlier versions of macOS, use iTunes to turn on Wi-Fi syncing.

In the iTunes app on a Windows PC: Click the iPhone button near the top left of the iTunes window, click Summary, then select “Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi” (in Options).

By default, whenever iPhone is plugged into power and is connected over Wi-Fi to your Mac or to iTunes on your Windows PC, the computer syncs your selected content to iPhone.

WARNING: If you delete a synced item from your computer, the item is also deleted from your iPhone the next time you sync.

Insert an icon

Select Insert > Icons.

Insert Icons on Visio

The process to insert icons on Visio is slightly different. Here you need to go to the Shapes menu, choose Basic Shapes, and then Icons. From there you’ll be able to select one of the categories of icons and choose the icons you want to insert into your diagram.

Insert SVG files

SVG stands for scalable vector graphic file, which is an image you can rotate, color, and resize without losing image quality. Office apps, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel, support inserting and editing SVG files.

To insert an SVG file in Office for Windows drag and drop the file from Windows File Explorer into your document.

If you have an iPhone and a Mac or iPad, you can link your phone number to your iCloud account to send and receive calls and messages from the same number on both devices.

Add a New or Existing Number on iOS

You’ll need to make sure your devices are signed in to the same iCloud account for everything to sync correctly.

The process is the same for all iOS devices, but you’ll need to enable your existing number on your iPhone first. On your phone, open the Settings app.

Make sure you’re signed in and have iMessage turned on. Scroll down and tap “Send & Receive.”

Once you’re signed in, make sure your phone number is checked under “You can receive iMessages to and reply from.” If it is, you’re all good for iMessage.

FaceTime still needs setup though. Go back to the main Settings window, and tap on FaceTime settings.

Make sure you’re using your Apple ID for FaceTime, and enable your number under “You can be reached by FaceTime at.”

Now that your iPhone is sharing its phone number, you’ll be able to enable the same settings on your iPad or iPod Touch to sync messages between devices.

Add Your Phone Number on macOS

Now that your phone is set up, you can move over to your Mac. Open up Messages, and you’ll be asked to sign in if you’ve never used it before. Open up Messages preferences by pressing Command+Comma or by selecting “Preferences” from the “Messages” dropdown in the top menu bar.

If you set up your phone correctly, you should see your phone number under “You can be reached for messages at.” It will likely be enabled by default.

This will send your Mac all iMessages sent to your phone number. This doesn’t cover text messages though; for that, you’ll need to enable text message forwarding.

For FaceTime, the process is the same. Open up the FaceTime settings, and you’ll see the same window with a checkbox next to your phone number.

This will link your phone and Mac for FaceTime calls, but if you want to receive cellular calls on your Mac, you’ll need to enable phone call forwarding.

Remove a Number

To remove a number, uncheck the box next to it in the iMessage and FaceTime preferences on the device you want to be removed. This will stop you from receiving future calls and texts on that device.

If you’d like to remove it from your iCloud account altogether, you’ll need to turn off from your iPhone. If you don’t have the phone (for example, if you sold it without wiping it first or if it was stolen), you can change your Apple ID password to force the phone to sign out. Though in the case of a stolen phone, you can always wipe it remotely with Find My iPhone, which will solve the problem in the process.

A. Great question! I’ve actually gotten this question a lot since the beginning of the pandemic and am happy to explain how to do a group FaceTime call.

Social distancing during the pandemic has made video chats even more popular and FaceTime can be a helpful way of staying in touch with others. Group FaceTime calls mean even more people can join in the discussion so you can stay in touch with others from afar (or even within your home).

About Group FaceTime Calls

Group FaceTime video calls can be made between Apple devices, such as iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Mac computers (see below for compatible devices).

Up to 32 people can join a FaceTime video call so your group can get quite large, though not as large as some other video chat services. The tile for the person speaking is enlarged, so you can keep track of who’s talking.

Group FaceTime calls are free and there’s no time limit for the calls. Note that FaceTime only works between Apple devices, you can’t use FaceTime to call Android phones, Windows computers, or other non-Apple devices.

Availability

  • iPad (5th generation) or later, or
  • iPod Touch (7th generation).

Note. This article is not a “howto” list of tricks for skipping any of the steps in Signal’s official account setup process, such as deliberately bypassing the part where you have to put in a phone number.
(In fact, as this article explains below, you can’t. [2021-02-14T22:00Z].)

Signal is a popular instant messaging (IM) app with a difference.

That difference – or at least its major difference – is simple: it’s not owned and operated by an industry behemoth.

WhatsApp belongs to Facebook, Skype is part of Microsoft, and iMessage is owned by Apple, but the open-source app Signal belongs, inasmuch as it belongs to anyone, to Signal.

Signal is a US-registered non-profit organisation that was founded entirely around making and supporting the messaging app.

As a result, Signal’s big selling point is, well, that it isn’t selling anything.

Sharing information about you with third parties isn’t part of Signal’s business model, so there’s actually no point in it figuring out how to do so…

…which means that there’s a much more compelling reason to believe the organisation when it claims to have an unbending focus on end-to-end encryption.

Signal not only has no desire, but also has no need, to take any interest in what you’re saying, or whom you’re saying it to.

Signal is also endorsed by a privacy celebrity that other IM service providers can’t match, namely Edward Snowden.

Snowden is quoted on Signal’s website with the five simple words, “I use Signal every day.”

(With apologies to well-known cryptographers Bruce Schneier and Matt Green, who are two of Signal’s other celebrity endorsers.)

Signal, however, has one curious aspect that puts some people off, this author included.

We’ve never bothered with Signal for the reason that signing up means handing over your phone number.

Conveniently, a phone number is all you need to sign up, but you can’t sign up with your name instead, or with an email address.

You need to use a working phone number that really is yours.

Basing the identity of accounts on a phone number makes a lot of sense, not least because a phone number is something you can easily and cheaply acquire in many countries, and it guarantees that the user has a satisfactory way of verifying their identity.

But in some countries, getting hold of a phone number isn’t an easy process, and may involve proving not only your identity but also your address.

Indeed, getting hold of an “anonymous” SIM card, or using an improperly registered one, is a criminal offence in some jurisdictions.

And there’s something unappealing about entrusting your identity on a secure online service (one that prides itself on immunity to surveillance) to a cryptographic chip that must by law be registered with a central authority so it can keep tabs on you via that same chip.

There’s something even less appealing about the worry that you could be locked out of your own account simply by losing the right to the phone number you used for the account.

This irony isn’t lost on Signal, and it has just announced a new feature called Signal PINs that allow you to keep control of your account even if you lose your phone or are forced to switch numbers and can’t get your old one back.

Signal aims to be easy and safe to use for everyone, which is why it hasn’t insisted on using long and hard-to-remember “recovery codes”.

Signal PINs can be as long and complex as you like, including letters as well as digits, if that’s what you prefer, but you can safely use a short PIN if you want something that’s easy to remember and doesn’t need writing down, an act that could be a risk for some Signal users.

Secure value recovery

Signal is using a technique it announced late last year called SVR, short for Secure Value Recovery.

One obvious problem with short PINs used as recovery codes for databases that aren’t stored in secure memory on your smartphone is the issue of what’s called an “offline attack”.

For example, your iPhone can get away with a 6-digit PIN because you can only type in the PIN on the phone, and the only way to verify the PIN (unless there is a bug somewhere) is to communicate directly with a tamper-resistant chip inside the phone.

That chip can’t be opened up, modified or cloned, so the internal counter it maintains of how many guesses you’ve had at the PIN can’t be reset or bypassed – you get 10 goes and then it’s game over.

You can’t make 10,000 copies of the chip and have 9 guesses on each copy without getting locked out forever.

But regular server databases aren’t as easy to protect against attacks where the crooks aren’t hindered by the presence of dedicated, tamper resistant hardware.

Signal has therefore put a lot of effort into developing hacker-resistant storage “enclaves” that the company can run on its own servers – using Intel’s Software Guard Extensions (SGX) – to keep your master secrets secure with a pass code that’s easy to remember.

As we mentioned, however, you don’t need to use a PIN to secure your Signal account – you can just use your phone number alone, as before, or choose a proper pass-phrase that’s as long as you like. (We recommend the latter, SVR or no SVR.)

No more phone numbers?

The disappointing news here, at least in our opinion, is that Signal isn’t yet announcing a way to use its product without handing over a phone number at all.

We’ve seen excitable reports in the media suggesting that this marks the beginning of the end of phone-based identity for Signal, but we don’t think it does.

You still can’t use the laptop versions of the app without setting Signal up on your phone first, and you can’t set it up on your phone without handing over a real, live phone number right at the start of the installation.

As Signal itself says, PINs aren’t a replacement for phone numbers but they do provide a safer way to recover your account in an emergency than a phone number alone.

In the latest version of our apps, we’re introducing Signal PINs. Signal PINs are based on Secure Value Recovery, which we previewed in December, to allow supporting data like your profile, settings, and who you’ve blocked to be securely recovered should you lose or switch devices. PINs will also help facilitate new features like addressing that isn’t based exclusively on phone numbers, since the system address book will no longer be a viable way to maintain your network of contacts.

It’s a start, not least because it means an interfering government or mobile phone company can’t lock you out of your account simply by cancelling your SIM card.

But you still need a phone to get onto Signal in the first place.

Today, we live in an era where people own multiple devices that are powered by different operating systems, and work environments are often mixed with Mac, Windows, PC, iOS, iPadOS, ChromeOS, Linux, Android, and everything else. So, let’s say you own a MacBook that you use while you’re on the move but own a Windows desktop at your home or office, you’ll often find issues trying to open iWork documents including the ones from Numbers app on your Windows machine. This is because Microsoft Excel is not capable of opening .numbers file and iWork suite isn’t available for Windows.

However, there’s another way to open, edit and manage the spreadsheets that you made on your macOS and iOS devices. How to Open Numbers File on Windows PC with iCloud

This is probably the most simple and straightforward way to open iWork documents on your Windows PC, as it doesn’t require the installation of any software. You don’t even have to install the iCloud desktop app for Windows, as we’ll be making use of your web browser instead. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the necessary steps.

    Open any web browser that’s installed on your PC and head over to iCloud.com. Type in your Apple ID details and click on the arrow to log into your iCloud account.

That’s all you need to do for opening Numbers files on your Windows laptops and desktops.

From now on, you don’t have to worry about iWork compatibility issues when you’re switching between multiple devices, as iCloud.com is not only capable of opening the files, but is also capable of converting documents to widely supported formats. iCloud can also be used to view and edit Microsoft Excel documents, if you find Numbers’ layout more appealing.
