  • Mobile browser: Go to your account settings and toggle Mobile Signature to on position. Enter a signature and select Apply.

There are several ways to add a signature to your messages in Gmail. You can designate one signature for mail sent from a computer and a different one for mobile. Learn how to add signatures in the browser and app versions of Gmail. (There are different steps for configuring an email signature on the iPhone.)

How to Create a Gmail Mobile Signature

Configuring a mobile signature for Gmail is really easy to do but the steps are slightly different depending on whether you're using the mobile app or the mobile website.

Mobile App

Setting up an email signature from the Gmail app does not apply the same signature to an email sent from Gmail in a web browser.

Follow these steps to add a special signature to just the Gmail mobile app:

Tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner.

Scroll to the bottom and select Settings.

Choose your email account at the top.

On iOS, toggle the signature to the enabled/on position. On Android, enter your signature in the text area.

On iOS devices, tap the back arrow to save the changes and return to the previous screen. On Android, choose OK.

Mobile Web Browser

If your Gmail account is configured to use a signature from the browser version of Gmail, the mobile website will use the same signature. However, if the desktop signature is not enabled, the mobile signature will only work if you enable it.

Here's how to enable the mobile signature in the mobile browser version of Gmail.

The signature will not work from the mobile website if you enable it through the mobile app.

Tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Choose the settings/gear icon next to your email address.

Toggle the Mobile Signature option to the on/enabled position.

Enter the signature in the text box.

Tap Apply to save the changes.

Important Facts About Gmail Email Signatures

When using a regular desktop signature in Gmail, you can clearly see the signature each time you compose a message. This makes it easy to edit the signature on the fly or even completely remove it for specific messages. This freedom, however, isn't an option when sending mail through the mobile app or the mobile website.

To completely remove the mobile signature requires that you go back into the settings from above and toggle the switch to the disabled/off position.

Also, unlike how the desktop Gmail signature can include images, hyperlinks, and rich text formatting, the mobile signature only supports plain text.

How to Remove Signatures

Although you’re always able to modify or delete your signature every time you send a new or reply message, disable Gmail email signatures altogether if you no longer wish to include a placeholder signature.

If you have a Yahoo, AOL, Outlook, Hotmail, or select non-Gmail accounts, use Gmailify to get many of Gmail’s features with that address.

To do this, you’ll need to link your account to Gmail. After you link your account, you’ll see all your messages in your Gmail inbox, plus these changes:

Note: If you link another account to an existing Gmail account, you might reach your storage limit. Learn how to clear your Google storage.

Link your address to Gmail

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings See all settings.
  3. Click the Accounts and Import or Accounts tab.
  4. In the “Check mail from other accounts” section, click Add a mail account.
  5. Type the email address you want to link, then click Next.
  6. Select Link account with Gmail (Gmailify), then click Next.
  7. Follow the steps on the screen, then click Next or Sign in.

After you link your account, “Gmailify” will appear next to your email address. When you open Gmail, you’ll be able to read, reply to, and organize messages from your other account just like you do in Gmail.

Unlink your address

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings See all settings.
  3. Click Accounts and Import.
  4. In the “Check mail from other accounts” section, click unlink.

After you unlink your other account from Gmail, you can choose to keep or delete copies of your other account’s messages in your Gmail inbox.

  • If you delete copies from Gmail, they’ll still be in the inbox of your other service (for example, Yahoo or Hotmail).
  • If you keep copies in Gmail, they’ll stay in your Gmail account. However, if you move or delete them in Gmail, these actions won’t be reflected in your other account.

Find emails from your other account in Gmail

Gmail might organize your messages differently from other email services.

Empty trash limit

Messages in your “Trash” won’t necessarily be deleted according to Gmail’s 30-day limit, but according to the “Empty trash” limit of your other mail service.

For example, if your other email service keeps a message in “Trash” for 60 days before permanently deleting it, you’ll see the message in Gmail “Trash” for 60 days.

Archived emails

When you archive an email in Gmail, it’s stored in a new “Archive” folder in your other email service.

To find archived messages in your other account, check the “Archive” folder.

Labels and folders

When you add a label to a message, you’ll see a folder with that label name in your other email account. For example, if you added a “Work” label to a message in Gmail, you can find the message in a folder called “Work” in your other email account.

If you add multiple labels to a message, you’ll see multiple folders that each have a copy of the message.

Note: Don’t add multiple labels to your messages if you have limited storage space in your non-Gmail account.
