How to activate a replacement verizon wireless phone

(Video Length- 3:07 )

Watch this video to learn how to activate a new device, or switch between devices, on your existing My Verizon account.

To follow along step by step with the video, go to your My Verizon Activate or Switch Device page. You’ll need to sign in first to get started.

Once you’ve activated your device, check out Top 10 Things to Do With Your New Smartphone for valuable information on getting up and running quickly.

How to Activate Your Device

It’s easy to activate a device on an existing line of your account with My Verizon. Sign into My Verizon, then select Activate or Switch device from the My Devices menu in the My Verizon Navigation.

Since you’re activating a device on an existing line of your account, click Activate to get started.

If you have multiple lines on your account, select the line that you wish to make changes to and click select device.

First, you’ll check if you are replacing with a device that was previously used on your account.

If you choose yes, select it from your device history, and click Check Device. If the device you previously used is not appearing in your device history, or if you are activating a device that hasn’t been used on the account, then select No and click next.

You’ll then need to enter the Device ID. If you can’t find the Device ID on your phone, select the device type, and the OS to get instructions on how to find the Device ID for the type that you’re activating. Once located, enter the ID and click Check Device. A little hint – as you’re entering the device ID, is to always remember to use the number "0."

For the security of your account, you’ll be prompted to authorize the activation. Select which device you want the code sent to, and then click Text me the code. Once you receive the code, enter it and click confirm.

In the Check SIM step we’ll make sure your SIM card is compatible with your line. If your device doesn’t require a SIM card or the previously used SIM card is compatible, you’ll skip this step. To learn how to find your SIM ID number, select your device type and OS from the drop down to get instructions. Enter the SIM ID and click Check SIM card. If you don’t have a SIM card, you can order one online or go to a store and pick one up. If you choose to order one online, click add to cart and follow the steps to checkout. Once you receive your new SIM card in the mail, or get it from a store, you’ll need to come back and go through this process again. You should see a button to "Activate SIM" if you purchased it online. Otherwise you can click on the link Have a SIM replacement from the Verizon store? Activate it here from the Activate or Switch Device start page.

If you previously had equipment protection or have recently upgraded, you’ll select an equipment protection option and click Confirm. If the device you’re activating is not compatible with your current data plan, you’ll be asked to select a compatible plan. Make your changes and click Confirm.

We recommend that you backup your contacts prior to completing activation for your new phone to ensure you don’t lose any contacts. Click to view instructions to backup your contacts from your device, and then click "continue" once your backup is complete.

In order to complete your activation, you’ll need to ensure your phone is powered off, if needed, insert the SIM card, and then power on your device.

Once your new device is active you can restore your contacts on your new device. Click the link to view restore instructions for your device, and then follow the steps on the screen as you did when you backed up your contacts. You can also get information on using your device by clicking on the option to get support. To ensure that your new device is active, click Send me a confirmation text message on my device

Take his old SIM if it is the same size as the replacement phone’s SIM, which it should be if the replacement is the same model phone. Or, call customer service who can do so, or you can Live Chat, or go to a corporate store. I suggest trying the SIM swap first, and if no dice, call CS. Those are the fastest methods. You might not be able to activate the phone online in My Verizon since it has never been on your account before.

How to activate a replacement verizon wireless phone

If the replacement/new phone is another iPhone, and both devices use LTE (meaning iPhone 5 or newer), just take the SIM Card from your broken phone and put it into the new phone.

Otherwise, see this FAQ: Activate, Switch or Bring Your Own Device FAQs | Verizon Wireless. The top most option contains the steps you need to activate the phone.

Whether you're upgrading to a new iPhone or activating a replacement device, transferring data from your old iPhone to your new one is simple, if you know where to start.

Every day, Asurion Experts help our millions of customers to get the most out of their devices, appliances, and connections—and assisting with new device setup is no exception. In this article, they'll walk you through everything you need to know to get your new iPhone up and running, from how to use Quick Start to how to restore data from your iCloud or restore backup from your iTunes account.

How to set up a new iPhone with Quick Start

Using Quick Start, you can set up a new iPhone easily using info from your old device. Both devices must be an iPhone 5s or later running iOS 11 or later; have Bluetooth enabled; and be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Here's how:

          1. Turn on both devices.
          2. Place the old iPhone next to the new iPhone. When the Quick Start screen appears on the old iPhone, tap Continue.
          3. When the new iPhone displays a pattern, use the old iPhone's camera to scan it and securely pair the phones. (If the old iPhone's camera doesn't work, tapAuthenticate Manuallyand follow the prompts.)
          4. Set up Face ID or Touch ID on the new iPhone.
          5. Sign in with your Apple ID password and tap Transfer from iPhone if both iPhones are running iOS 12.4 or later or Download from iCloud to restore apps, data, and settings from the old iPhone's most recent backup, or to create a new backup of the old iPhone and restore from that.

How to transfer iCloud to new iPhone

Before you get started transferring data from your old iPhone to your new iPhone using iCloud, make sure you're in a spot with reliable Wi-Fi. We also recommend leaving your device plugged in to a power source.

          1. Turn on your iOS device and go through the setup screens.
          2. If you're asked to use Quick Start, tap Set Up Manually.
          3. On the Apps & Data screen, tap Restore from iCloud Backup
          4. Enter your Apple ID and password to sign in to iCloud.
          5. Select the backup you'd like to restore. Note: If the backup you're needing to restore says “iOS (version number) required, you'll need to update before you can restore this backup. Once you've updated, you'll need to reset your device by opening Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
          6. A progress bar showing estimated time remaining will appear. Do not turn off your device. Your device will restart during the restore process.
          7. When the Home screen appears, you can start using your device. We recommend staying connected to Wi-Fi and power, as the restore process will continue in the background and could take up to a few hours, depending on the amount of content you have to restore. You can check the status or stop the restore by opening Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup.

How to restore backup to new iPhone with iTunes

          1. Connect your new phone to your computer using the charging cable that came with your new device.
          2. iTunes should automatically detect the device and open. If not, click on the iTunes icon to open the application.
          3. When the Welcome to your new iPhone window appears, click on Restore from this Backup and choose from the dropdown list the name of your old device. Then, hit Continue.
