How to access facebook dating

Facebook Dating makes it easier to find love through what you like — helping you start meaningful relationships through things you have in common, like interests, events and groups. It takes the work out of creating a dating profile and gives you a more authentic look at who someone is.

Today, we’re launching Facebook Dating in the US. We’re also giving people the ability to integrate their Instagram posts directly into their Facebook Dating profile and giving people the ability to add Instagram followers to their Secret Crush lists, in addition to Facebook friends. By the end of the year, we’ll make it possible to add Facebook and Instagram Stories to your Dating profile too.

Finding a romantic partner is deeply personal, which is why we built Dating to be safe, inclusive and opt-in. Safety, security and privacy are at the forefront of this product. We worked with experts in these areas to build protections into Facebook Dating from the start, including the ability to report and block anyone; prohibiting people from sending photos, links, payments or videos in messages; and by providing easy access to safety tips. These features and others give you more control and peace of mind. Learn more about privacy and Facebook Dating here.

How It Works

Starting today, you can choose to opt into Facebook Dating and create a Dating profile (separate from your main profile) if you’re 18 years or older and have downloaded the most recent version of Facebook. You will be suggested to others who have also opted in. People are suggested based on your preferences, interests and other things you do on Facebook. Facebook Dating isn’t about swiping or having to wait for someone to like you to get a first chance at reaching out. If you are interested in someone, you can comment directly on their profile or tap on the Like button to let them know. If you aren’t interested, you can pass on them. Facebook Dating allows you to match with friends of friends and/or people not in your friend circle. Facebook Dating won’t match you with friends, unless you choose to use Secret Crush and you both add each other to your list. All of your Dating activity will stay in Facebook Dating. It won’t be shared to the rest of Facebook.

Facebook dating is not a new concept; it has existed for a long period of time, through different Facebook groups.

However, in an effort to make it easier for individuals to interact on Facebook and also find love, Facebook developed the Facebook dating app.

The idea is that the Facebook dating app will include features similar to those available in existing dating applications.

While the Facebook dating app is not a self-contained application, it is built in such a manner that it seems to be.

That is, it is brimming with dating app functionality.

Numerous Facebook users are perplexed about how to download the Facebook program on their devices. You see, the problem is that you will never find out how to get the Facebook dating app from the app store.

However, if you are unable to locate it, it indicates that the Facebook dating app is not available in your country.

Facebook’s dating app, which was announced at the corporation’s F8 Conference in May, 2018, has just rolled out to all of the U.S. For those who are currently swimming around in the dating pool—which is hopefully heavily chlorinated—the app is probably both a cause for excitement and caution. Facebook has, in most cases, more data on more people than any other site out there after all, but will that translate into flawless matches or jettisoning the most private details of your love life out into the public?

Before looking at the safety concerns with Facebook’s dating app, let’s talk about how it works. First of all, you need to be at least 18 years old to use it and the only way to set it up is through the Facebook app. The app can’t be downloaded on its own and it can’t be used solely in conjunction with Instagram. In order to open the dating app, you go to the bottom-right menu button of the Facebook app. Between the options for your profile and friends should be an option for Dating. Next to the option is a stylized heart icon, which kind of looks like it’s empty (just saying).

It takes the completion of only a few simple steps to put your dating profile out there. For example, the app asks you to select your gender identity and the gender identity of potential romantic options, as well as which profile pictures you’d like to use initially. The whole setup process takes about a minute if you’re fine with the default images and profile information (which includes your name, age, job, etc.), and seems to be more or less an emulation of Tinder’s setup process.

Once you have your profile activated, Facebook will begin suggesting potential matches for you based on, according to Facebook’s press release, “things you have in common, like interests, events and groups.” Which sounds like Facebook will have some kind of algorithms working in the background trying to figure out who belongs with whom based on large datasets of behavioral patterns. You can also adjust your dating location, circumference in which to find matches, and gender identity, age range, and height preference of matches. Facebook defaults to only recommending friends of friends and people completely outside of your circle.

One of the most unique features is the Secret Crush function, which allows you to select up to nine of your Facebook friends or Instagram followers as potential secret interests. With Secret Crush, you’ll only find out if somebody else is interested in you if you both add each other to your respective Secret Crush lists. If you don’t match or if your crush doesn’t have the app, the other party will never be informed of your liking them. On top of Secret Crush, you can also comment directly on people’s dating profiles, or simply “like” them.

As far as safety is concerned, it seems like Facebook is going out of its way to assure users that it’s not going to share dating data in any way with their main Facebook profile pages. Facebook dating is opt-in only, and users will have the ability to block or report anybody. The app also apparently prohibits people from sending links, videos, photos, or payments, which puts it at somewhat of a functional disadvantage to other dating apps. This should greatly cut down on the exchange of unwanted content , however.

Facebook also noted in a post specifically outlining the safety features of the dating app that you can provide different information on your dating app profile from the information you have on your regular profile. None of the actions you take on the dating app will appear in your Facebook feed, and you are in control of which Facebook users can see your dating profile. Your Facebook friends also won’t know whether or not you’ve signed up for the dating app; your dating profile will only be visible to people who’ve been suggested to you or vice versa, or to secret crushes who’ve liked you back. In terms of data collection and usage, Facebook says that your dating activity, which includes information like who you’ve liked or passed on, won’t be shared with anybody outside of the app.

If you’re in the US and 18+, you can sign up for a Facebook Dating profile today and match with people who have similar interests – or use Secret Crush to match with people you already know on Facebook and Instagram 😉 pic.twitter.com/QWHbhXHFq7

Users will also be able to connect their Instagram accounts to their Facebook dating profiles, although the ability to share stories won’t come until later this year. Facebook says the ability to share Instagram stories will give people’s profiles a more lively feeling relative to those on other dating apps, although it seems like, overall, Facebook dating is basically Tinder 2.0.

What do you think of the idea of Facebook dating? Are you champing at the bit to find your secret crushes or are you wary of giving Facebook any more of your personal information? Let us know in the comments!

If you’re sick of continuously swiping, there’s a new player on the online dating scene called Facebook Dating. The feature has been available in 19 countries including Canada, Brazil, and Thailand, but starting today, U.S. users can now look for dates on the social media platform in the hopes of becoming “Facebook official.”

Facebook users that are at least 18 can create a separate Dating profile from their regular Facebook profile within the existing Facebook mobile app. You can integrate photos from your Instagram profile in your Dating profile as well.

Unlike other dating apps like Tinder or Bumble, where you swipe to find a “match,” Facebook Dating suggests people based on your interests and preferences. To let someone know you’re interested, you can either comment on their profile or use the “Like” button. You can also choose to match with people who attend or attended the same Facebook events, or are part of the same Facebook groups as you.

There’s even a “Secret Crush” feature where you can let someone among your Facebook friends or Instagram followers know that you’re interested. However, if you find it awkward seeing people you know pop up on your dating apps (“Should I swipe right out of courtesy?”), Facebook allows you to opt in or opt out of suggesting people within your network.

“Facebook Dating makes it easier to find love through what you like — helping you start meaningful relationships through things you have in common, like interests, events, and groups. It takes the work out of creating a dating profile and gives you a more authentic look at who someone is,” said Nathan Sharp, product manager of Facebook Dating, in announcing the feature.

To set it apart from other dating apps, Facebook Dating will allow you to integrate your Instagram stories into your profile to “help you show, rather than tell, who you are.” Facebook said this feature would be available by the end of the year.

Another feature Facebook hopes will differentiate its offering from others is the ability to let people share details of their date — like their date’s name, the time, and the location — with whomever they choose. Users can share this information with someone they trust via Facebook Messenger for added security when meeting someone for the first time.

Dating apps like Bumble and Tinder rely on data from people’s Facebook profiles, such as if a potential match has any friends in common with you. According to Wired, Facebook will not cut off these apps’ access to this information.

The dating app world is definitely about to become even more crowded with the addition of Facebook Dating. There’s Bumble, Hinge, Tinder, Grindr, OkCupid, Coffee Meets Bagel, and countless more, so be prepared for even more app-switching.

Facebook has long been the place where everyone from college students to divorcées scope out their romantic interests. Now Facebook users in the United States can officially use the social network as a dating service—complete with specialized profiles, a matchmaking algorithm, and more. Facebook Dating, which began rolling out in other countries last year and launches in the US today, gives users ages 18 and up access to a suite of features designed to help them find a meaningful relationship. Plenty of them will be familiar to anyone with experience on other dating apps, but a few options take unique advantage of Facebook's biggest asset—its extensive cache of data on you and all your friends.

Facebook Dating lives within the existing Facebook app, but to use it you need to set up a separate profile. The only information carried over is your name and age. The service will present you with potential matches based on your location, indicated preferences, and other factors. You can also choose to match with people who attend the same Facebook events or are part of the same Facebook groups. One thing it won't show you are your existing Facebook friends—that option is turned off by default.

Facebook is also using Dating’s US debut to launch several new privacy and security features within the service. And, of course, it’s integrating Instagram into Dating. Which is not surprising since the company has been bringing its platforms closer together in various ways all year.

On most dating apps, “people are forced to make a decision off this one profile that never changes and is extremely curated,” says Charmaine Hung, a Dating product manager at Facebook. The social network wants to create a more dynamic and authentic experience. Starting today, users will have the opportunity to feature their permanent Instagram posts in their Dating profiles. By the end of the year, Facebook says it will also allow you to share Instagram or Facebook Stories. They won’t be Dating-specific Stories, but the same ones you already upload for your friends or followers; they will also still erase after 24 hours. The social network isn’t the first to have the idea: Tinder announced it would begin integrating Snapchat Stories in April.

Instagram will also become part of Secret Crush, an existing Facebook Dating feature that lets users select up to nine Facebook friends they want to express an interest in—as long as that person indicates they have a crush back. Now your Instagram followers can be Secret Crushes, too—no choosing celebrities or influencers unless they follow you, sorry! If someone adds you to their Secret Crush list, you’ll receive a notification. If you then pick the same person for your list, Facebook will match you together and reveal your names. If the feelings are one-sided, nothing happens.

Dating apps like Hinge have historically marketed themselves on their ability to match you with friends of friends—people with whom you already have existing social ties. Facebook Dating also allows you to do the opposite: You can preemptively turn off matching with friends of friends, which may be a welcome option for anyone who wants to date outside their network. The feature may also help LGTBQ+ people who are not out to their communities. You can also block people from seeing your Facebook Dating profile, even if you want them to still have access to your Facebook or Instagram accounts.

Did you know that Facebook has a new and exciting feature that lets you meet new friends and perhaps even lovers who share similar hobbies, passions, and interests as you? It’s true.

Facebook Dating became officially available for use in the Philippines last Wednesday, May 1, 2018.

So if you’re currently looking for someone new in your life, then you might as well try it out and see what it can do for you.

Unlike Tinder or Grindr, Facebook Dating App – which is integrated within the existing the Facebook mobile application for iPhones and Android smartphones – doesn’t just show you potential dates or mates within your area but it also ensures more reliable matching – beyond looks – by taking into account the user’s profile, interests, common friends, status updates, and preferences, among other important parameters.

How To Get Facebook Dating and Turn It On?

As I’ve said, the app can be found within the main Facebook application that you can download from Google Play Store or Apple App Store for free. Just make sure that you have the most updated or latest version of the FB App running on your handset.

I’m not sure if Facebook will eventually launch a standalone application for Dating. But I guess if this feature will become a big hit globally, then I guess it will make sense for the company to do just that.

To go to Facebook Dating, simply click on the Options or Settings tab of Facebook App; The one with three short horizontal bars. When you’re in that section, scroll down and click on “See More”. Then, choose “Facebook Dating”.

This will launch the Dating App — and right off the bat, it tells you that it won’t share your dating profile and conversations to other places on Facebook, giving you complete privacy while meeting new people.

Facebook Dating matches you with people based on the things in common — not just based on physical appearances. Hence, if you prefer making deeper connections or true friendships, then you might prefer this one over many other apps that are specifically made for quick steamy encounters.

With Facebook Dating, you can find out who’s open to meeting new people in the events that you attend or inside FB Groups that you are currently part of. No need to guess.

With Facebook Dating, you have to freedom to choose whether you want to respond to a message or not. Sure, people you don’t know can message you but you don’t have to reply to them if you don’t want to.

Facebook Dating even lets you set Privacy Settings, giving you full control of who can see your dating profile.

You can block people who are absolutely not interested in and you can limit your Dating Profile access to just the friends of your friends.

How To Set Up Your Facebook Dating Profile?

After you’re done tweaking your privacy settings, you will be taken to a page where you can choose the gender identity that you closely identify with — and what’s great is that it’s not just limited to Man or Woman. Legitimate gender identities including Trans Woman and Trans Man and even Non-Binary (Fluid or Bisexual) are also accounted for.

Next, you have to choose the gender or genders of people you are interested in meeting. In my case, I’m just looking for new friends so I picked all of them.

Next, you have to give Facebook Dating permission to access your current location, which it can also display on your Dating Profile if you allow it too.

After that, you’d have to choose your Facebook Dating profile photo.

You can use the one that you already have on the main Facebook app or you may also upload a new one; It’s all up to you.

Within your profile, you can add more photos and type in more personal information to make it more enticing to potential mates or dates. I think that the more details you add, the better your chances of getting ideal matches.

If you’re good with what you’re seeing, click “Done” in the upper right corner to wrap up.

Facebook Dating has three main sections: Your “Dating Profile”, “Interested” tab – where you will see all FB Dating users who like your profile, and finally, your “Conversations”.

As of writing, Facebook yet to make Facebook Dating fully active across the Philippines. But you can already access it to fix your profile — so you’re ready when it finally starts working, hopefully, just a few days from now.

Facebook is testing a video speed-dating app called Sparked. The app, which requires a Facebook profile to create an account, is developed by the company’s NPE Team, Facebook’s in-house group that works on experimental apps.

You can view the Sparked webpage here, where it describes the app as “video dating with kind people.” It also promises no public profiles, no swiping, no DMs, and that it’s free to use. The app will seemingly cycle people through speed video dates that last four minutes. It’s unclear how many video dates a person will go on per event, but the app says that if “you both have a great time” daters will then be scheduled for a 10-minute second date. After that point, Sparked suggests they can exchange contact information and stay in touch through Instagram, iMessage, or email.

The Verge attempted to set up a profile and was put on a waitlist, but the user sign-up flow suggests kindness is a key theme for the app. When signing up, users have to type out what makes them a kind dater. The app says these responses will be “reviewed by a human at Sparked” before people can go on speed dates. Users also have to choose whether they want to date men, women, or nonbinary people, and then are asked if they are open to dating trans people. The Verge viewed a landing page for a dating event in Chicago that says 47 people have signed up to attend. What’s unclear is how daters connect to the event, like whether they have to log into Sparked through the web, or if they’ll eventually be prompted to download an app. No app is live in the App Store or Google Play. (We went through this sign-up process just from a browser.)

You can view screenshots of the sign-up process below. In an emailed statement to The Verge, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed the existence of the app and called it an “early experiment” They also said it’s only in a “small beta test” right now.

Sparked would be the second dating product from Facebook. Facebook Dating, which operates out of the main Facebook app, launched in the US in 2019 and has since rolled out to various countries, including, most recently, the UK. It operates similarly to most dating apps in that people can view a public profile of a potential match and then send a like to possibly receive one back and start a conversation. The NPE Team has launched many apps, none of which have particularly taken off, so it’s unclear how committed Facebook will be to Sparked.

Video dating only recently became a popular idea, mostly spurred by the pandemic and people staying at home and limiting their in-person interactions. The League first launched a video speed-dating feature in 2019, and since then, Hinge and Tinder have also launched the ability for people to have video chats with matches. (Bumble launched its video chat function in 2019, as well.) Sparked would mirror The League’s approach and seems to suggest that the company is experimenting with new ways to get people to date as they get sick of swiping and filtering through hundreds of profiles.

Update 4/13, 12:01 PM ET: Updated to include Facebook’s comment.

Facebook, at its F8 developer conference, made a surprising announcement that they are developing a dating service. The Facebook dating service would enable a user to create a separate profile other than the regular Facebook profile that they have. Thereafter, the social networking giant would feed them with matches based on their preferences, interests and mutual friends.

Explaining the rationale behind the Facebook dating service, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said there are over 200 million people on Facebook who show themselves as “Single.” “So clearly there’s something to do here,” he said. Further, Zuckerberg cleared that with the dating service, the company wants to ensure that users find a long-term match rather than casual hookups. However, how the social networking site would make that happen is not known yet.

Talking of the new service, Chris Cox, Facebook’s chief product officer, said that the Facebook dating service “mirrors the way people actually date, which is usually at events and institutions that they’re connected to.” Cox stated that they got the idea of having a service like this when several couples told Zuckerberg that finding the perfect match was one of the most important things that happened to them on Facebook.

He added that the social networking giant is working towards a noble cause that would let more people to do the same, “in a way that was opt-in, in a way that was safe, and in a way that took advantage of the unique properties of the platform and didn’t get in the way of everyone who wasn’t interested in dating.”

So, if you are interested in the Facebook dating service, here is how you can use it. First you need to click the heart icon on your Facebook profile, this would land you on the “dating home” page from which the dating profile page can be set up. This page would not be visible to your Facebook friends. You will be able to check the nearby events and groups that interest you.

Once the profile is complete, it would be shared with others going to the event and groups that you expressed interest in. Additionally, a user would be able to see others who would be attending the same event and also check out their profiles. If you find someone of interest, there is an option for a private chat as well.

The other person, if interested, can message in a private message box connected to the profile. You can also interact in that message box. As of now, it is not known if the social networking giant would charge for the service, or if it will be free. Other dating apps charge users for the premium service.

The Facebook dating service is entering into a very crowded industry. However, the timing of the Facebook dating service is a bit odd, considering all that has been happening lately with the social networking giant, including the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Zuckerberg, however, addressed this concern as well, saying, “I want to be clear that we have designed this with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning.”

Facebook is known to encroach on the idea of a different service – something it has done to Snapchat – and then up the bar to make it impossible for smaller companies to follow. With the Facebook dating service, the company could taste success like no other app, given the huge mine of data that it has of the users.

According to a study by researchers at Stanford University and the University of Cambridge, the amount of data that Facebook has can be used to understand the personality of an individual a lot better than from personal knowledge of their family and friends. One of the data scientists at Facebook even stated that he could predict with fairly good accuracy about how long the relationship among the Facebook users would last.

So, if Facebook makes up its mind to harness the data and analytical competence to bring together people with similar personalities, interests and values, the company may even succeed in finding them their perfect partners, even better than who they would have picked themselves.

For users, a Facebook dating service means easy management of their dating profile, as well as, social profile. For Facebook, it would be another feature to encourage users to spend more time on the platform. However, it will be interesting to see if the dating service will interest teens, who have been moving away from the platform.

Speaking to MarketWatch, Meredith Golden, a dating coach based in New York City, said that the platform would play cupid for mostly the divorcees and users above 40 who do not look up Tinder to get themselves a match. Even with the users above 40, it’s a lucrative segment for Facebook. According to the Pew Research Center, online dating is growing popular among 50s and older.
