How to accept payments on paypal

How to accept payments on paypal

PayPal is the leading online payment processor in the world for a reason. It is fast, international and flexible. To show just how flexible it is, we have rounded up the many ways you can accept payment through PayPal.

However you make sales, wherever you make sales, you can receive money on PayPal.

Note: These payment methods apply to merchant accounts/business accounts. That said, some of these also work for personal accounts.

Here’s What We’ll Cover:

1. Invoicing Through Paypal

The most basic way of accepting payments on Paypal is to use your PayPal portal. You can send a direct money request to anyone, regardless of whether they have a PayPal account of their own. All you need is an email address.

As a business owner, you can use their invoicing tools in your merchant account. The invoice will be sent directly to your customer and they can pay using the PayPal portal.

This is the most popular way of using PayPal for business because the customer can easily select a payment option. They can use their credit cards or debit cards if they don’t have an account. They can use their PayPal balance or bank account if they do have an account.

Be wary that you pay more in fees for credit card payments.

Alternatively, you can send a simple “money request” that bypasses the invoice stage. You simply tap in your payment amount and send it via email to your recipient.

This form of payment is best for international transactions. Domestic transactions work too of course. They are also cheaper in terms of fees. But if you do have clients abroad, this is an ideal way to bill them.

2. PayPal.me Link

A PayPal.me link is a short URL that is unique to you. Both personal and merchant accounts are entitled to a paypal.me payment link. You can customize your link to include your business name if you want to. As long as it doesn’t already exist, you can claim it.

Once your paypal.me link is set up, you can send it to anyone at any time.

The difference with this form of accepting payment is that the payee sets the payment amount. You can’t set the payment amount before sending the link.

3. Setting Up a Paypal Payment Gateway on Your Site

Your website is another place you can accept payments through PayPal. You need to set up a PayPal payment gateway on your website. The way to do this depends on your web host. WordPress has PayPal plugins. These can create handy PayPal branded payment buttons. Wix and Squarespace have their own apparatus for connecting online sales to your PayPal account.

This is ideal if you sell digital products, courses, physical products or consultancy services online.

4. Linking Your PayPal Account to Your Accounting Software

So say you have a Freshbooks account (which you definitely should). You use it as your primary way of invoicing clients and managing payments. You can connect your accounting software to your PayPal account if they have a partnership. We do have an alliance with PayPal. So if you send an invoice through our software, your clients can instantly pay the balance using the PayPal gateway attached to the invoice.

5. Mobile Payments via PayPal

Mobile payments are relatively new for PayPal. They are relatively new for the US in general!

The advent of contactless payments has taken the country by storm in the last year. Touch-free payments are so much more important now.

PayPal has a contactless payment feature that works for any company with a PayPal account and any payee with an account too.

All your customer needs to do is scan your unique PayPal QR code with one of their mobile devices.

This payment method works well for shops, cafes and bar owners.

1) Leave it as long as you like. If it sits dormant for a few years, we may legally have to send the funds to your state as abandoned property, so just don’t go three years or more without logging in at all and you’ll be good here. 2) Unclaimed funds are only if you do not accept or deny a payment.

Hi there chinwenduu,

If the payments you are waiting on are still pending in eBay:

– This usually means the email address in your listing does not match the email address on your PayPal account
– You can add and confirm this email address to your PayPal account, or you can contact your buyer to cancel this payment from within their PayPal account and send a new payment to your correct address. Only, the buyer can cancel the payment, and only if it is ‘Unclaimed’

Here’s how to find the email address that was used in your eBay listing:

– Find the item you sold and click ‘Sell a similar item’ under ‘More Actions’.
– Go to the section ‘Decide how you’d like to be paid’, which displays the email address where the payment was sent.
– If the email address displayed in your listing is correct, I would suggest contacting the buyer and checking the exact email address they sent the payment to. Even a minor spelling mistake will mean that the payment is not sent to your PayPal account.

If you need a quick way to accept payments – with or without a website – we’ll walk through the process from start to finish. This is the first step-by-step guide in a series that will show you how to quickly open a PayPal Business account, add a payment button to your website, send invoices, and create your own shareable link. If you need help at any point, please call us at 844-720-4039.

Does it show as unclaimed on your side or the senders side?

Are you the seller or the buyer?

Does it say if there is a cancel option next to it?

Do you have a personal or a business account?

Is the payment that was sent in your own countries currency?

I volunteer my time on here to help you, so leaving kudos or marking one of my posts as a “solution” would be appreciated.

Old thread here but considering your post revived it just wanted to chim in to you issue. If there is an unclaimed payment it is 99% of the time due to the client sending a payment to wrong the email address. Can you see it under your business account? I doubt it. If she is unwilling to cancel the payment, which is an easy process, and re-send the money I would be inclined to think something is fishy and you are better off not doing business with him/her As a general rule it is always best to send an invoice for payment if the customer has not used your shopping cart to purchase the item. Sounds like he or she just sent a payment without doing either which would leave you covered by less of a safety net to fraud. My advice is just tell the client you can’t do anything about her purchase but do wish her the best while being as polite as possible.

A friend of mine sent me money via PayPal. She says she didn’t pay via credit card and that the money has already been taken out of her account. Her PayPal account says, “myemailaddress hasn’t accepted yet.” It’s the right email address. But my account isn’t showing the payment. I’ve looked all over and can’t find anywhere to accept the payment. Any idea how to solve this?

I received a partial refund (within the uk). My details are correct (except the account is in an old surname). I am receiving text messages saying I have not claimed my payment, but I cannot see any option to accept the payment in the iOS app or mobile or classic websites. The status of the payment received is appearing as completed but I am still receiving texts. I don’t know what else to do. Very frustrated. Any suggestions please?

How to accept payments on paypal

The financial landscape is shifting at an alarming rate. Anyone unwilling to adapt easily finds themselves forced to change or worse, deal with the exorbitant cost of transactions. The only alternative, therefore, becomes shifting with the technological wind.

PayPal Me (PPM) represents one of the financial waves you want to ride in on. PayPal.Me is a product of PayPal, the oldest digital payment systems.

What PayPal.Me does is allow you to create a safe and personalized link to your friends and family or even your business customers as a way of requesting them to pay you directly into your PayPal account.

So, this could be exactly what you have been looking for to share costs or avoid extra transaction costs.

For example, if you’re out for dinner with your friends and one of your friends mentions that they could pay for the meal using their card, but you have to refund them your share of the meal, you could use PayPal Me.

In this case, you will send your friends a PayPal Me link to request payment. This option makes receiving cash easier, and you could also send the link to your clients to request payment if you are a freelancer.

Your clients will pay you via PayPal.

The only catch is that all your friends have to be PayPal users.

Using the link created, you could either include the exact dollar amount owed or you could leave the link open.

What makes PayPal Me the Easiest way for you to accept payments via PayPal?

Contents In Page

It’s easy to create the link

Using PayPal.Me is an easy process.

  1. First, Signup for PayPal if you don’t have an account yet.
  2. Next, you need to create your PayPal.Me page.
  3. If you don’t have a page, click on the Get Started tab then input your preferred username.
  4. The username will appear at the end of the URL you send out to people.
  5. If you have a page, just log into your account.
  6. To create a link, click on the Create Your PayPal.Me link.

Note that after PayPal asks for your username, you can grab the link by clicking in the Grab This Link button.

Once you have the link, share it with your friends, customers or business partners, instantly.

You could share the link via email, text, chat, or on your business card. The link appears as PayPal.Me/username.

Note that you cannot change your username once you create it.

Although you can hide it, you cannot delete the link once created. Therefore, you should be very careful with the username you choose.

Account customization

So, if you want your page to have another color other than the standard PayPal Blue, you could customize your page.

The other bit of customization is where you can choose to upload a picture.

Even though the addition of a picture is optional, we recommend that you upload a picture to help your friends confirm that they are sending money to the right person.

Fast Payment

By following the link, your friends and business partners or clients will pay you by entering the amount they wish to send.

Often, the money is credited to your PayPal account within seconds.

Before you set up and send that PayPal.Me link, you should be aware of the terms and conditions, as well as the cost of use of the platform.

One of these factors is whether you intend on using the link for personal or business use.

While using the link for personal use attracts the lowest fees, using it for business but classifying the transaction as personal often means that you will incur the appropriate fees for business later.

The PayPal terms and conditions clearly outline that you cannot use the personal PPM for receipt of business payment and vice versa.

The terms also note that the consequence of breaking their rules, say receiving a commercial payment using the personal link, is getting retroactively charged the appropriate fees.

You will also be required to reclassify your PPM link as a commercial one.

It, therefore, means that having a business PayPal account translates into having a business/ commercial PPM, with all links sent and the payments received classified as a commercial payment.

Your PPM fees will also vary depending on whether the transaction is local/domestic or international, and also based on the person send you money – business/ personal.

For example, you are not charged any fee is the payment is made from a linked bank account or from your PayPal balance. However, domestic transactions attract up to 2.9 percent the cost of the total transaction if you are paying through your debit or credit card.

For business transactions, the PPM fee charged within the US is 2.9 percent of the total cost of the transaction in addition to the fixed fee that is based on the involved currency.

International PPM fees

If you are sending money to friends/ family out of the US and you are paying with your PayPal account balance or even a linked bank account, the PPM fee charged varies from 0.3 up to 2 percent the cost of the transaction and depending on the country that is involved.

The fees go up to 3.9 percent for payments from credit/ debit cards. There also is a currency conversion fee charged.

On the other hand, if you are sending money to clients out of the US, the basic fee charged is 4.4 percent the cost of the transaction.

There also is a fixed fee charged based on currency, an international payment fee, and the currency conversion fee.

Looking at these rates, it is clear that PPM might not be the ideal payment option for businesses, and freelancers.
