How to accept christ as your savior

How to accept christ as your savior

A salvation prayer, known by many Christians as a “Sinners Prayer,” is a prayer one would say to repent from sin, ask God for forgiveness, confess belief in Jesus Christ, and accept him as Lord and Savior. Saying a salvation prayer is the first step in your relationship with God.

If you believe the Bible offers truth about the way to salvation, but you have not taken the step to become a Christian, it’s as simple as praying this prayer. You can pray by yourself, using your own words. There is no special formula. Just pray from your heart to God, and he will save you. If you feel lost and don’t know what to pray, here’s a salvation prayer that you can follow:

Prayer of Salvation

Short Salvation Prayer

Here is another short prayer of salvation that evangelical pastors often pray with people at the altar:

Is There An Official Sinner's Prayer?

The salvation prayers above are not official prayers. They are meant only to be used as guides or examples of how you can talk to God and ask Jesus Christ to become your Lord and Savior. You may adapt these prayers or use your own words.

There is no magic formula or prescribed pattern that has to be followed to receive salvation. Remember the criminal who hung on the cross next to Jesus? His prayer consisted of these words only: "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." God knows what is in our hearts. Our words aren't all that important.

Some Christians call this type of prayer a "Sinner's Prayer." While the term is not found in the Bible, the concept is based in Scripture:

Psalm 51

In Psalm 51, King David asked God for forgiveness. This is another example of a salvation prayer in the Bible:

Now What?

If you just prayed a sincere prayer of faith and you're wondering what to do next as a new Christian, check out these helpful suggestions:

Who is Jesus Christ? Many people will acknowledge Jesus Christ as a good man, a great teacher, or even a prophet of God. These things are definitely true of Jesus, but they do not fully define who He truly is. The Bible tells us that Jesus is God in the flesh, God in human form (see John 1:1, 14). God came to earth to teach us, heal us, correct us, forgive us—and die for us! Jesus Christ is God, the Creator, the sovereign Lord. Have you accepted this Jesus?

What is a Savior, and why do we need a Savior? The Bible tells us that we have all sinned; we have all committed evil acts (Romans 3:10-18). As a result of our sin, we deserve God’s anger and judgment. The only just punishment for sins committed against an infinite and eternal God is an infinite punishment (Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:11-15). That is why we need a Savior!

Jesus Christ came to earth and died in our place. Jesus’ death was an infinite payment for our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins (Romans 5:8). Jesus paid the price so that we would not have to. Jesus’ resurrection from the dead proved that His death was sufficient to pay the penalty for our sins. That is why Jesus is the one and only Savior (John 14:6; Acts 4:12)! Are you trusting in Jesus as your Savior?

Is Jesus your “personal” Savior? Many people view Christianity as attending church, performing rituals, and/or not committing certain sins. That is not Christianity. True Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Accepting Jesus as your personal Savior means placing your own personal faith and trust in Him. No one is saved by the faith of others. No one is forgiven by doing certain deeds. The only way to be saved is to personally accept Jesus as your Savior, trusting in His death as the payment for your sins and His resurrection as your guarantee of eternal life (John 3:16). Is Jesus personally your Savior?

If you want to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, say the following words to God. Remember, saying this prayer or any other prayer will not save you. Only believing in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross for you can save you from sin. This prayer is simply a way to express to God your faith in Him and thank Him for providing for your salvation. “God, I know that I have sinned against You and deserve punishment. But I believe Jesus Christ took the punishment I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I receive Your offer of forgiveness and place my trust in You for salvation. I accept Jesus as my personal Savior! Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness—the gift of eternal life! Amen!”

Seek to understand God’s plan: “So, I need to be saved from what, and why? Believing in God and The Bible is crucial to understanding “What is a savior?” and “Why be saved?” The Bible is God’s revealed word to mankind, written by people so yielded to God’s will that God chose them to write it. The people who wrote the books of the Bible were inspired (given the words) by God. They all agree in purpose and point to Christ, the Messiah, though they were written over a period of more than a thousand years. The Bible teaches that all people have sin in their lives.

Sin is any act that displeases God, as sin separates us from God, who is perfect, such that the payment we are to pay for sin is spiritual death — permanent separation from God.

Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Genesis 2:17: “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eat thereof thou shalt surely die.”

Romans 5:12: “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned”

Romans 5:14: “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of Him that was to come.”

John 3:16-17 (NIV): “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”

Hebrews 10:10: “And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

Someone had to pay with his life for all of our wrongs. Hebrews 9:22 (NIV)“In fact, the law requires that. without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”

Tell God what you want to say to Him. But realize that: John 9:31 “Now [in this] we know that God [listens but] hears not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and does His will [and receives Christ], him He hears [and answers].” Talking to God can be in many forms, whether in a prayer or in an ordinary way as in talking to others. Here’s a prayer suggestion, please read this suggestion but use your own words. Without reading such words, just tell God what you want to say to Him in your own words, expressing all your love to Him:

“My God and my Savior, I know I have disobeyed you, and I know about all the bad things I let into my life. But with you, my God, I’ll never fear even the worst things in life, because you have sent your only true Son, Jesus, to be rejected by self-righteous teachers, falsely accused, crucified, and so He paid the price of my own sins. I come to you, my God, to confess everything I have done in my life, and to tell you I am sorry. I am here to declare you King of my life, my thoughts and my actions. I want you to be my Savior. Please God, forgive me, for I have sinned before you. My God and my LORD, reign over my life, because your reign is perfect and your kingdom will never see an end. Amen” Feel the presence of God in faith while kneeling. Kneeling is efficient, if you want to concentrate on nothing but your prayer.

Accepting Jesus as your personal Savior involves an understanding of who Jesus is, what a Savior is, and what it means to accept Jesus as Savior.

Jesus Christ is often noted as a good person, yet the Bible declares He is much more. He is God in human form who came to live on earth (John 1:1). He lived, taught, performed miracles, suffered, died, and resurrected from the dead to prove He is Lord. In 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 the apostle Paul shared, “I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

A Savior is a rescuer, redeemer, or one who saves someone else. Jesus is Savior of the world in every aspect of this word. Jesus rescues us from sin and eternal punishment when we trust in Him by faith. He is a redeemer because He paid the cost of our sins through His death on the cross. He can save us because He has the power to forgive sins and the desire to save those who trust in Him.

To accept Jesus as your personal Savior is to acknowledge who Jesus is in your own life. It is to believe in Him. John 1:12 says: “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 3:16 adds, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Are you willing to place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior and receive this free gift of eternal life? If so, follow through with the decision right now. There is no special prayer you must pray to do so. However, the following prayer is one you can use to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior:

“Dear God, I realize I am a sinner and could never reach heaven by my own good deeds. Right now I place my faith in Jesus Christ as God’s Son who died for my sins and rose from the dead to give me eternal life. Please forgive me of my sins and help me to live for you. Thank you for accepting me and giving me eternal life.”

How to accept christ as your savior

What does it mean to accept Jesus as Saviour? Does mankind need a Saviour? How do you accept Jesus as Lord & Saviour?
To understand why we need Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour and how to accept Him in your life, we must first understand what sin is; who Jesus Christ is and why Jesus had to die on the cross.

What is Sin?
Sin is any thought, decision or action that rebels or transgresses the law & principles of God.
The Bible tells us that man is sinful and unrighteous (Romans 3:10; Romans 3:23) . All of mankind has a sin nature as a result of the sin of Adam which occurred in Genesis 3.
Romans 5:12 says “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned”.
The sin nature or flesh is the part of man that does not think with God nor can it please God. Every person is born with the sin nature in them.
The New Testament Greek word is sarx . Kenneth Wuest defines sarx as “the totally depraved nature as dominating the unsaved individual.”
The works or characteristics of the flesh or sin nature are found in Galatians 5:19-21 .
The person who has never accepted Jesus as Saviour only has this sin nature inside him and also controlling how he lives. Therefore his internal motives, goals and lifestyle are governed by the flesh or sin nature.

The Wages of Sin
Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death. This death that is spoken of in Romans 6:23 means eternal separation from God or hell.
Therefore if there is no intervention from a Saviour pertaining to sin or the sin nature in your life, the eventual result of living as an unsaved person is eternity in hell.
Sin or the sin nature also hinders us from having right fellowship with God.
Before a perfect, holy and just God our sins are likened as debts to God for which we cannot pay those debts (Matthew 6:12). Failure for those debts to be paid results in eternal punishment.
This is why we all need a Saviour – Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ & His Life, Death & Resurrection
John 1:1,14 tell us that Jesus is God who took human form to dwell among the people. Jesus came to earth to teach us and guide us. He also lived as an example for us. Most importantly, He lived a perfect, sinless life which qualified Him to pay for our sins which we cannot pay. Jesus Christ’s death on the cross was His payment and sacrifice for the sins of the world (John 3:16).
Jesus Christ did not come to die for the righteous – because there are no righteous people (Romans 3:10).
Rather, Jesus came to die for sinners and pay the debt of sinners and in doing so He became our Saviour.
Luke 5:31-32 says, Jesus answered and said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

How To Accept Jesus As Saviour
How do you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour? The Bible tells us that we accept Jesus Christ as Saviour through placing our faith or total trust in Him. There are over 50 verses that speak of salvation being through faith in Jesus Christ.
Accepting Jesus Christ as our Saviour requires us to believe that salvation is only by Christ alone (John 14:6) and that only Jesus Christ is the one who paid for our sins on the cross. Therefore eternal life and a relationship with God is possible only by accepting Jesus as Saviour through faith.
Salvation is a FREE gift. Accepting Jesus Christ is not based on your personal works or merit (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ.

Romans 10:9-10 NKJV
That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:13 NKJV
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

John 1:12 NKJV
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name

Why Not Make Your Eternal Decision NOW? Accept Jesus as Saviour.

We become born again Christians by GRACE through FAITH or TOTAL TRUST in Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior (Galatians 3:26) & (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation is a FREE gift received through FAITH in Christ.

PLEASE NOTE: You can choose to pray in your own words. This prayer is a sample prayer and it is only an EXPRESSION of your faith, belief & trust in Jesus. Salvation is by GRACE through FAITH or BELIEVING in Christ Jesus as your Lord & Saviour.

“Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your love. I thank You that You died on the cross for me and resurrected so that I may have life through You.
I confess Lord that I have sinned against You and today I ask You to forgive me of all of my sins, past present and future.
I repent of all of my sins and I ask You to cleanse me Jesus.
Thank You for forgiving my sins.
From this moment, come into my life Lord Jesus & take full control of my life. I want to follow You Jesus and I want to follow Your ways. Save me and from today, make me the person You want me to be.
I receive You Lord Jesus right now by faith. I trust You as my Lord and Savior – Amen”

How to accept christ as your savior

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.

for “ Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved .”

He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.

For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.

There is none who understands ,
There is none who seeks for God ;

even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.

and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Then God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before Me. read more.
“You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain. “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you. “You shall not murder. “You shall not commit adultery. “You shall not steal. “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

You can accept the free gift given to us by Jesus by praying to Him.

He offers that relationship freely and lovingly. “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. ” (John 1:12). Just like any free gift, you must receive it for it to be really yours.

How do you receive the free gift of Jesus Christ?

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved. ” (Acts 16:31). We can receive Jesus Christ by personally inviting Him into our lives. Jesus said “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in. ” (Revelation 3:20).

If you would like to accept Jesus’ free gift and become a child of God, you can pray this prayer now.

“Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for dying on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins. I ask forgiveness for my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for giving me the gift of eternal life. I want to turn and live a new life with you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.”

If you prayed this prayer to receive Jesus Christ as your Savior, congratulations! When you sincerely ask Jesus Christ to be your Savior, He comes into your life spiritually, and you become a child of God. “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:11-12). You may or may not feel any difference right away, but if you truly have asked Christ to be your Savior, your sins are forgiven and you are a child of God.

Did you pray to accept Christ? Share with a Christian about this great decision!

God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
